Very nice clip on Hyoen practice etc. Dai is so beautiful, sigh.....

You've beaten me, demarinis. Agreed, he's so beautiful and full of life, isn't he?! :luv17:

Thanks for sharing that amusing episode, deedee. Something similar happened to me too once, buying wine at the supermarket when I had just turned 30. The checkout clerk, who asked for my ID looked like he was barely of age himself. I chuckled while I complied. Upon seeing my birth date his cheeks turned pink and he apologized. I told him "No need to apologize. I took that as a compliment!"

You're our youngest sister then. ;):) Over the years cheering for Dai together, demarinis and I are feeling like a twin sister each other. And I'd love to add MaiKatze if she's okay with it, beacuse I believe she's also our age. Now we're like triplet sisters, with a younger sister synes . :ghug::)

Dai has a profile on JSF's website again:

He lists skating as his hobby. :)

THIS! This alone makes my day any day! Yay! :thank:

Aw, thank you for kindly accepting me into your circle. :ghug: Tbh I would've had no idea what everyone's age here is.: Not that it matters since - as the saying goes - age ain't nothing but a number. As I guess most of us do, I have friends of various ages, from all kinds of backgrounds and with a wide range of views of life. Diversity is the spice of life!

Dai is already back with the Hyoen cast! He just updated his ig:

https://www.instagram.com/p/B0K9REvndLU/?igshid=xx1gftaslnm8

"4 days left! Practice late at night yesterday! Everyone's having breakfast now!
Best buddies! !"

He has been nothing but positive about the experience these past weeks and seems to have bonded well with his fellow cast members. Cast and crew have been fondly labeling their time together at rehearsals the "happy camp". Here's to hoping that new lasting friendships were forged! ♡

Here's a clip of Daisuke trying his hand at kendama from today's Hyoen special on Nitteleplus (he gets the hang of it on the 4th attempt ):

Thanks to Keiji fan "fefe" for translating bits of their hilarious banter (and for trying to transcribe Dai's parts in spite of his habit to speak at lightening-speed ):

https://twitter.com/hanageshinken2/status/1152569426484629505

It's adorable that Keiji still gets nervous around Dai. :) And great to hear Dai is visiting his family in Kurashiki often these days. I remember his mother revealing that the entire family likes to gather for barbecues at the new house that Dai had built for his parents in 2016. In my mind's eye I'm visualizing a scene of his nephew chasing Moko (Dai-chan's miniature pinscher) and his father's dog in the garden.

A while ago the Weekly (Shukan) Asahi feature got a web release (which is identical to the magazine edition):

It's a neat interview that "presents" Dai as grounded and mature. He's self-reflective and realistic, but also optimistically looking ahead. Since there aren't many active translators among Dai's fanbase anymore it's doubtful we'll get a full translation. (Unless deedee or mikeko can find the time to help out?) Anyway, for now here is an incomplete translation posted on DTrtS' facebook account:

Q: You went back to compete last season. How was it?
D: It was good. I once again recognized that I like the operation of work to build up the practices and then show the result product somewhere. Of course there were things that could not be done compared to old times, but I was able to find parts that could grow even at my current age. I feel so fresh about the joy of finding that growth, the joy of being able to do something I couldn't do before, and my discoveries in such daily training.

Q: What are you going to do this season?
D: It won’t be easy like last year. Well, actually it was not easy last year too, though(lol) But I want to do as far as I can go. There is no Worlds for me if I don’t get any results and I might as well get a minimum score... I’m going through many thoughts.

Q: Are you going to attend GP series?
D: I was given the info that there are spots as a “comeback” skater for me.

-- The part where Dai talks about his junior skaters. --

Q: Let me ask about your juniors. It’s famous that Shoma Uno looks up to you.
D: I think we’re at the Nationals together before I retired. I retired after Shoma’s name became known to people. I thought their generation was stunning from those days. Honestly speaking, I regarded they, including Yuzuru Hanyu, were from completely different level.

Q: Different level?
D: Cheering them on just like their fans, or I didn’t think they were the same athletes (like myself) but someone completely different from me, it may sound strange since we competed but... In a sense, I see them as one of their fans, one of their supporters. Like cheering “do your best!” for Yuzu, Shoma and Keiji. Once I retired, there’s no way to see them as my rivals. In the first place, I was the only Showa era born, I feel the same to those Heisei era born boys. We competed together but not really together. They’re people I look up to, people I think “wow!”, subjects/targets of my respect.

Q: Don’t you think they would be filled with awe if they hear you say so?
D: No, I am really impressed to see their performances. I didn’t really see other people’s performances when I was eligible before, but after the retirement, due to the TV work, I watched so many performances of others’ for the first time. (laughs) I was impressed! It’s so different from performing it by yourself to watching others doing it. It’s like “do your best, everyone! I will try my best as well!” (laughs)

Q: For Yuzuru Hanyu as well?
D: Like “Go ahead! Make records more and more!” and “Yuzu is really amazing...” only respect for him. He has so many things I don’t have. It’s truly amazing that he can pull out his maximum when it matters.

Unfortunately I've come across a few selective and heavily biased translations by non-fans that leave out crucial parts to give his words a spin that isn't actually there. I just came back from the last show. To be honest, the script was not as well written as Hyeon 2017 Basara, and the staging had some problems. On the other hand, the actors/skaters were just wonderful and their performances actually made those flaws less noticeable.

And about Dai, what can I say? I underestimated his talent. He was such a amazing actor. His voice had so much depth, command and emotions. I could tell he had received voice training during the production camp and really worked hard (as he apparently lost weight), but it was such a short period of time! I have to mind you, those actors in Hyoen are well known professionals, and even their fans were amazed by him, like "What is Daisuke Takahashi???" I am sure he's going to get lots of offers in acting. And his skating was better than ever, heart-wrenchingly beautiful.

So glad for you that you saw the show and thank you for your review. Dai is so talented. There is not much that he can't do when he sets his mind to it, like the singing OMG I was
flabbergasted when I saw that clip. Dai has gotten glorious reviews for his performances.

Thanks so much for the Hyoen treats you all, especially to mikeko for the show report! :thank:

Everyone and everything looks and sounds freaking amazing! Oh my gosh, Dai-chan's singing! I have to admit I never ever expected him to be this good. :eekn: I'm so awed by his uncompromising dedication and how he never shies away from new challenges, even at the risk of failure. In my opinion that's what makes him such an outstanding artist with a capital A and such a compelling performer. No question the foundation is of course his abounding talent.

Reviews are very positive, especially Dai's performance has been receiving a lot of praise. Here is one:
https://de-de.facebook.com/DaisukeTakahashiRoadtoSochi/posts/1617999488337610?__tn__=K-R

And reports from spectators about Dai's chilling "kisama (you bastard)" line during the battle:
https://www.facebook.com/DaisukeTakahashiRoadtoSochi/posts/1617350718402487

Wah, now I'm really sad I didn't go! :sad21:

Can't wait to watch the show in all its glory. They should honestly consider to release a dvd/blu-ray this time to advertise the "Hyoen brand" worldwide. It's such a wasted opportunity, if they don't.
