As Dai has been very vocal about his platonic crush on Meryl, I think she has to be the one to make the next step

I think Daisuke is also sending signals to Meryl by saying he wants to learn English and different dance styles. ;) If they ice dance together (minus the lifts since as Meoima noted it will be bad for Daisuke's knees), that will be really something special!

Someone uploaded a part of the program here.

Thanks for the link mikaboo! Oh gosh, Nobu is getting all emotional again.

Dai can already speak enough English though, I think he means he wants to polish it up a bit. His English has to be perfect to impress Meryl

Maybe they can do a special program in a show somewhere  I can imagine something similar to those programs Shizuka Arakawa and Stephane Lambiel did on ABC Thin Ice in 2010.

Daisuke, visit America to improve your English!
Well, I hate to say this but Lots of Japanese people are not good at English. For some reason I don't understand. They can understand your English so well, but when you expect them to reply you, they will struggle a lot. I have met several cases. I guess Dai might not be so different. He can understand your English, but it could be difficult for him to express his thoughts in English.

I actually want him to visit America so I can see him skate live... but I'm using the opportunity to practice his English to try to persuade him to come here. :)

Well I wish somebody invited him to the United States to skate in shows but that's less likely to happen. He's only done ice shows in other countries just a few times; Yuna's Festa On Ice in Korea comes to mind, and now Denis Ten's show in Kazakhstan. I hope he gets more invitations from now on.

Dai does struggle with expressing himself in English but his pronunciation is impressive for a Japanese person. He used to live in the United States when he was training with Morozov so I guess that's how he learned.

That will be epic! I hope an ice show producer thinks of this. I can see Daisuke being like a Stephane Lambiel, who gets invited to shows all over and who has crossnational appeal.

Re Daisuke's English, yes it's fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=INg1wsSGAX0. And to the question as to favorite skater/s, of course he said, "Charlie White and Meryl Davis." (7:35) His smile after saying this is precious. :)

I guess if Meryl wanted to continue when Charlie retired, Dai would always be there. his knees would be healed by then. Now I am rooting for you, Dai! go to America, study English and bring back queen Meryl to Japan.

While we're talking about this topic, I thought I'd share this compilation of videos where Dai is speaking English
http://video.yandex.ru/users/jejel/view/307/

I didn't really take notice of Daisuke and become his fan until he came back for the 2009-2010 Olympic season. In the video, some of the footage was from before that season, and Dai was talking about doing two quads. I can't help but think of what might have been if he hadn't gotten injured in 2008 and he did two quads at the 2010 Olympics.

He did two quads in the long program back in the 2007-2008 season and scored 264 points at the 2008 4CC. If he repeated that at the Olympics, he would have surely walked out with a gold medal (and probably a new world record score), as Evan Lysacek only needed 257 points to win.

Dai skated at the Rinkai Sport Center Charity Event today! First time we've seen him on ice and skating a program since Sochi!!
Here's the article (in Japanese) and he skated to "Kissing You" by Des'ree from the 1996 Romeo & Juliet soundtrack.

Thanks for the information jimeonji. Immediately went to YouTube to check if his performance has been uploaded but no such luck (yet). Anyway, instead I found this 25-second video entitled "Daisuke Takahashi admired Mao Asada!!!" Judging from the triple exclamation points, the uploader must be excited about it. :) Requesting please a translation from kind Japanese fans to know exactly what Daisuke said about Mao in the video and when did he say it. Thanks!

Thank you for the article jimeonji! Wasn't expecting this choice of music. I'm reminded of Michelle Kwan  As for the more recent years, I've started associating that song with Yuzuru so it will be interesting to see Dai skating to it. It will be magical, no doubt.

This is the picture from the article, edited by magicaleggplant on tumblr. The original one is too dark.

This is the program from the event, with Dai, Tatsuki, Akiko and Kanako's silhouettes on it. The skating order was Kanako, Tatsuki, Akiko and Dai.

There were TV crews there so we will probably get some glimpses on the news later. After he skated on Kissing You (vocals included), he did an encore of Eye.

Dai did 2 jumps (possibly a 3F and a 3Lz), a split jump and a spiral towards the end. The program was very "sexy and expressive" When he appeared on the ice, the crowd cheered so loud they couldn't hear announcement. He received a standing ovation at the end.

This was the morning show, and from what I've read, there's going to be another one in the afternoon.

^Thanks ionap for the info and the links! Happy to learn of the rapturous reception given to Daisuke by the audience. :)

Yes, it will be interesting to see how Daisuke skated to "Kissing You." I hope someone uploads a video of that performance soon (can't wait).
