Too bad for Polina, but at least the qualification score doesn't count, hope she skates as good as she did in euros.
By the way what happened to viktoria pavuk??i remember she was good in some european championships many years ago and now she's in last place!

russell30, you don`t understand. Polina hasn`t got the coach almost all last month. The fede didn`t give her the coach instead Victoria and it was impossible to do.
If the skaters can train themselfs the coaches wouldn`t be needed.

YES I do understand but normally a skater does not enter WITHOUT anyone!

For Viktoria the COP has not worked to her advantage, lot of UR's for her, just not the same skater as before, a real shame....

I am really worried about her. If she didn't have a coach for so long(1 month?), then her situation won't get much better in 1 or 2 days. So unlucky. She is only 15.

That is really worrying and what a blunder by the Russian Federation. Polina a great talent top 5 potential here and SHE HAS NO COACH FOR A MONTH! Terrible!! She might not get another chance to go to World's.......

Volchkova borned her son on 10 March. The 8 days after she must be in the hospital ( It`s the rule in Russia). And before the 10 March at least the week ( or two) she couldn`t be at the rink.
Ther is no the assistant coach as I know.
That is why I worred all last time about Polina`s training prosses.

Well at least according to the protocols, Polina K. did her 3f+3t combo but got an edge call, and then she did 4 combinations so the last one didn't count, this is just her second senior international competition, I'm hoping she was nervous and she'll pul it together for the short and long, I really love her skating.
Also it seems Jenna skated very well.

no assitant coach ? I don't think that is possible that no one is accompanying her especially in such a big competition.
and no coach for a month ? I hope this is not true the russian fed shoudl support Polina more. she has so much talent
and should be given equal achnace against others like Julia, Elena, Adelina and Tukt

Polina K. and Adelina are my sentimental faves
amongst the new russian skaters

There are too many the young stars in Russia now. So none of them is especially valued.

If it true, this is so wrong! Why can't Russian fed assign someone to prepare Polina for world and be with her at the comp? This is really bad management and waste of opportunities for both Polina and Russian fed!

this is what I am thinking too, because of so many talented young ladies skaters now in russia
it looks like their fed is having trouble and keeping track on who to support and push.
It will create a backlash and would be a waste if someone like Polina K, Shelepen and others
they can't rely soley on Julia, Tukt and Adelina, what is they retire after 2014 ?
they will regret it in the long run tehy have ignored other talented skaters

You`re absolutely right, treeloving.
But poor Polina doesn`t understand yet how bad it can be for her though it isn`t only her fault.

I'm surprised Polina K did not win this...and equally surprised that Jenna McCorkell skated so well!

And Russian fed has been very careful on on sending either Polina S. or Markarova. I can't imagine that they didn't put enough attention on the ones already on the team. I hope it wasn't like this. But I can't help worrying.

It always amazes me that Clara Peters qualifies for the short program without a triple jump. Granted, she has improved her double axel technique immensely from her attempts a few years ago, but has she ever attempted a triple jump in competition?

While there is more to skating than jumps, it almost seems wasteful for her to skate in the short program when she won't have a chance to qualify due to her technical limitations.

Yes I was surprised about Clara as well, because many skaters ranked lower did manage some triples, however from the protocols it seems she did a very clean routine if only with double jumps, and COP friendly??

It's best not to fire on all cylinders in the qualies; just do enough to qualify and save your energy and exuberance for the real thing. None of the scores in this phase really matter in the long run.

She seemed to skate very well given her technical content and her COP friendly step sequence and spins in the later half of the program. I'm glad that she's participating at the event, but with skaters being penalized in the SP for failing to attempt/complete triple jumps, her inability to even perform 1 triple makes it impossible for her to qualify.

this could be a blessing in disguise
better to bomb here than having a terrible LP :)

just qualify, skate like you are in practice
and don't feel any pressure
