Good result of Ashley. Next year. Still don't know how the heck Leonova beats Akiko on choreo and interp. Well I suppose it's block judging because nothing else can explain it. If only Akiko and Ashley had better SPs.

I really, really wanted Ashley to podium, and finally break both the medal drought for the US ladies and just for herself. But then I realized I actually wanted it for Akiko more when I noticed I was nearly falling out of my chair during her skate 'cause I was rooting so hard.

Akiko, IMO, is possibly the best performer on the ladies side in skating right now. She has never gotten her due in that regard in the PCS. But she made up for it by working so very hard on her technical elements, learning a 3/3 and a 2a/3t at her relative late age (and she gets better and better at them, too). If the judges won't give it to her in the PCS she'll just have to win it with TES.

Really, anyway you look at this Worlds, the bronzes in every discipline were the highlights. All 4 bronzes went to first time world medalists, all of them at varying stages of their careers, but all of them delightful skaters with lots of supporters who wanted the best for them. I will say, though, that Akiko's win is the most satisfying and touching for me.

Carolina Kostner, World Champion! That sounds fantastic :)

I first noticed Kostner when she was a 15 year old at her first Euros, and she was lovely even back then. It's been a pleasure watching her this season and especially today. Yes, the ladies field isn't the strongest at the moment, but that means all the pressure was on her - and for a skater who has had ups and downs in her career because of difficulty handling the pressure, that can be daunting. But she didn't let the doubled flip get to her, and other than that one mistake she absolutely nailed it and everything she did was quality.

I think this is her 12th or 13th consecutive medal - hasn't been off the podium since 2010 Worlds! For a skater who was written off as a headcase, that's pretty amazing. I remember a few years back when things didn't look as good, she said she still had things she wanted to do in skating, and she'd retire when the time was right. I'm so glad she didn't give up and found her way to the top of the podium. Well done, Carolina!

Kudos to Ashley Wagner for bringing it today, to the lovely 27 year old Akiko Suzuki for representing Japan on yet another podium, and to Alena Leonova for bouncing back after a poor Euros, even if her programs are standard Morozov crap.

I am happy that Suzuki won Bronze. She has been treated so poorly by JSF and almost totally ignored by Japanese media. I hope she will continue competing to Sochi like Takahashi.

Akiko's PCS should have been the second best one in the whole competition. I just don't get how Mao received 60 points for PCS. Talking about "gifted".

Yeah, I agree. Akiko should've got at least 60 :S I still think she should've won Silver...*sigh* OH WELL SHE MEDALED AND THAT'S ALL THE MATTERS :)

Well Russia backs in with their 3 sports barely. I think Makarova needs to retire like Alissa

That... movie opening music in the middle of Makarova's routine is LOL.

Yeah, that's a really bad music cut choice right there. I laugh everytime.

Congrats to the medalists! Could not be more happy for Caro and Akiko!

I hope Ksenia enjoyed her last worlds. I can't Russia placing her above the Sotnikova and Liza T who will be eligible next year. At least they can rotate their jumps.

A bronze is worth a gold as these Championships :) The bronze medalists in all disciplines were more enchanting than the other two medalists :)

Expected meltdown from Ksenia, but Russia keeps 3 spots, already good :)

I like the podium very much! Great skate from Carolina, so happy for her to finally get the title! It was beautiful and well deserved!
Happy for Alena and Akiko, they both did very well!

I remember from watching Europeans back in 2003 that I thought Carolina would one day become world champion. Its taken her 9 years, but she has done it!! Well done CAROLINA!!

Yup. I feel Akiko is my favorite especially in the performance aspect of FSing. And she has the tech too. I wish she could have been a step higher on the podium but a medal is a medal.
