^What a terrific coverage on them! I think the confidence of theirs just exudes through their comment. I can't believe so longed-for SA is in just a week and we'll get to see their programs, finally!

There's a really nice interview with the Kent, WA, newspaper & Meryl & Charlie

http://www.kentreporter.com/news/173623951.html

It is nice that a few thousand people in a country of 300 million saw it.

But every little bit helps - and I mean that sincerely.

Ashley has been very active too - and I don't think any US Lady has enjoyed being champion this much since Rachael Flatt's (mother) ;)

Right now ice dancing it is at an all time high. Great teams even with Belbin and Agosto's retirement. The battle for the US team will be fierce after Davis and whtie and assuming the shibutanis regroup then who will be no. 3. Tough decision. No wonder Giles went to Canada (I do wonder if the Gilles family has a lot of money? It seems like financially blessed skaters are often known to go to other countries to try to get on the national team. I know there was a singles skater just a few years ago from the US who went to Germany (lady) and her family was supposed to be very well off. It costs a lot to move/train overseas obviously.

In ice dance, sometimes is extremely hard to find a new parner. See Vanessa Crone for example. It could actually lead to retiement, if you are left without a suitable dance mate. You may give it a shot, like Emily Samuelson did, but if is not working out, she might call it a career.
Therefore I am not blaming any of the skaters who will go in another country or even overseas, because you never know. It might lead to success like Marina Annisina or right now, Kaitlyn Weaver'case.

Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue's situation is really an exception, when both of them seem to be doing a lot better instantly than previously and they were in the same country.

Recent Videos of US ice dancers have surfaced (If you haven't seen them from the competition threads):

Hubbell & Donohue at Finlandia
SD Titanic soundtrack; John Ryan's Polka
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHame4P9d_4

I just would like to mention regarding H/D SD music something which some people might not be aware of:

The opening waltz, listed as "Titanic soundtrack" is not exactly composed by E. Horner, the "Titanic's" composer.
It is one of the best known viennese waltzes, from Franz Lehar's operetta "The Merry Widow"

Wasn't or isn't there a Russian ice dancer female who is quite good but never found a partner - I think she won a bronze medal with her then partner (I think he retired due to injury) in like 2008 Jana K. She skated with a Canadian model I think who is the son maybe of Zueva? GAP model - Fedorov, Andre something. I am sorry I don't really remember but she was quite good and it was sad she never found anyone to skate with.

Jana Khoklova. She skated with Sergei Novitski, and then skated one year with Marina Zueva's son Fedor Andreev. Yes, they won world bronze one year.

Well for American dance fans, Skate America is almost here:

There are only seven couples competing in dance, and 3 of them are Americans:

Meryl DAVIS / Charlie WHITE USA
Lynn KRIENGKRAIRUT / Logan GIULIETTI-SCHMITT USA
Anastasia CANNUSCIO / Colin MCMANUS USA

We've seen the other two teams' programs at Salt Lake Senior B.

Meanwhile the Shibutanis have announced their SD music, and it is to the Overture to Mary Poppins; pretty much the same music that Gilles & Poirier are using.

(2) And Cannuscio/McManus are blogging for IN from Skate America. :)

Their first post from Thursday is very nicely written.
My favorite part is when he affectionately teases that she has been known to get lost in a grocery store. Ironic b/c as a foodie with her own cooking blog, she prob. has had to navigate many a grocery aisle.

Okay time to revive this thread so we can talk about how things are looking now that the GP is done....I'll add my thoughts in a bit! Until then, discuss.

ETA: Yes, I'm copying whoever did it on the Canadian side.

Aldridge & Eaton will be competing at the JGPF, which runs at the same time & location as the GPF, Sochi. They qualified second, with 2 wins, in a field of 6 teams.

So Meryl & Charlie won't be the only US dancers at the GPF/JGPF

What do you Aldridge/Eaton's chances are to podium or even win?

There chances to win are small, I think. Stepanova & Bukin should win by a mile. A&E won both their events, but their scores aren't that close to S&B; I do think they have a chance at a medal. After all, they are the returning bronze medallists at Jr Worlds. They are competing against 4 Russian teams & Papadakis/Cizeron.
