We'll be bringing you loads of tweets/photos/info from #ChampsCamp beginning tomorrow. Safe travels to all the Team USA athletes!
1:06 PM - 20 Aug 12

Who knows, maybe the Shibutanis and their partners in crime will have an opportunity to dream up a new video?!
In any case, sounds as if everyone is bringing a sense of fun ;) [as well as serious purpose, of course!].

Wed and Thu are the official days for performances of programs, per USFSA press release today re Champs Camp:

" ... Skaters will spend time on the ice at the World Arena, where they will perform their short programs and free skates in a simulated competition environment on Wednesday and Thursday. A panel of specialists will meet with each competitor to offer technical feedback on the programs. After arriving and going through an orientation process, athletes will gather Tuesday night for a special keynote address. ..."

Previous Champs Camp keynote speakers:
"An accomplished person in the world of athletics is brought in each year to be the camp's keynote speaker. These have included John Nicks (2007), Paul Wylie (2008), Peter Carruthers and Dorothy Hamill (2009), USOC Managing Director of Sport Performance Alan Ashley (2010) and Olympic speed skater Dan Jansen (2011)."

I got the impression from whatever I read about Jansen last year that the speaker's identity is kept secret as long as possible - to give the skaters a nice surprise.

If I recall correctly, the keynote speaker last year was Dan Jansen, the Olympic speed skater.

I got the impression from whatever I read back then that a high-profile speaker (not from USFSA) who can be an inspirational role model typically gives the keynote. And that the speaker's identity is kept secret as long as possible - to give the skaters a nice surprise.

Dan Jansen? That is seriously cool. If I remember correctly do certain skaters as well give short presentations? In the past I believe competing skaters that were taking part in the Camp were invited to talk about their mental preparation/sports psychology.

Might be the best one yet, LOL.

ETA:
USFSA Facebook page says that this "Western" photo shoot today with all the national champions was for the January SKATING magazine cover.

2012 class photo of all -- or at least most -- of the attendees (in other words, this is not from the Western shoot):

[The resolution is not high enough for my eyes to identify every single face, but I do not see Lysacek, BTW.]

[Rachael Flatt had tweeted that she was arriving very late tonight because of her academic schedule.]

^ That is my guess, too. I was figuring that chances are that the only person wearing sunglasses would be Weir as well.

which makes me think his attitude hasn't changed as much as he wanted folks to believe...

Update: Lysacek, Flatt, and Madison Hubbell all had late flights last night - per USFSA tweet last night.

Too bad that they missed the first group photo op, but no doubt that we'll see them in posed and candid shots to come.
