Grand Prix Early Predictions Game

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, but I was thinking it could be a fun game to play where you guess the top 6 finishers in each discipline at each GP event before each of the GP's start. Then you get points depending on how close your top 5 were (the 6th is a substitute).
So here's the scoring system -
Every correct placement you get nets you the same number of points that the skater would get. If you are one place off, you get 3/4 of the points; if you are two places off you get 1/2 of the points, and if you are three places off you get 1/4 of the points that the skater scored. Anything else and you don't get points.
Whoever has the most points at the end wins (and we may continue it through to next year to include Euros, 4cc and worlds if there's good turnout)!

Points Spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aokj9T7ryMaFdG02UGthRDYxMkZuU1VZMGZhZnBpLWc

You will have until 12 AM local time of the first day of competition to post your picks.
If you missed Skate America, don't be afraid to join! There's still plenty to be won!

Every correct placement you get nets you the same number of points that the skater scored (so if you guessed that Tuk would win Skate Canada and she scored 100 points total then you'd get 100 points). If you are one place off, you get 3/4 of the points; if you are two places off you get 1/2 of the points, and if you are three places off you get 1/4 of the points that the skater scored. Anything else and you don't get points.

Sounds like a fun game! I would be willing to help out in calculating (I'm good at keeping spreadsheets!)

Or maybe to keep it simple we can used a similar scoring system to the GP (15,13,11,9,7,5) and use the deduction formula you mentioned. So if I predict that Ashley Wagner wins Skate America (15) points and she comes in third, I get 7.5 points. Doing it that way also puts more pressure on guessing the top spots correctly because if you're wrong, you stand to lose more points.

What do you think?

ETA: Also to consider -- do we want to put all the predictions out now or do it event by event? Given that withdraws and substitutions can occur up to days before the event, it probably wouldn't be beneficial to do it all at once.

Yeah, maybe doing it before each event might be safer.
As for doing it using the GP method, I feel like it's just as easy to do it using the points they scored. It feels a bit less arbitrary (unless we're talking about crooked judging lol)
And I would definitely like help. We could make a google doc and share it with everyone that way everyone could see each other's points and another one with everyone's picks

And we have another casualty - Tobias and Stagniunas are out of Skate America. (this game is really forcing me to learn how to spell all these skating names)

Well 5 entries in a day - hopefully we can have this every day :)
I wonder whether more people don't see it because they mainly look at the Edge forum?

I think so, can you move it there? Or maybe "The voting booth" is the right place...
