Well, he's so nice only because Yuzu didn't really manage to beat him for a title. It was only the short program! I'm sure Plush would be calling Yuzu terrible, terrible names like "good, average skater" if Yuzu actually beat him! The Evil Russian Villain is now returning to take back his titles (all gazillion of them), and he is armed with curses and voodoo magic that will make everyone else fall down! Mwahahahaha!

Onto something more substantial, I'm not sure how serious he is about the next Olympics. Comments reported by the media, with various degrees of seriousness:
- Don't care if I have to get ten more surgeries, not ruling out next Olympics (serious?)
- Maybe. I'm joking, for now. (not so serious)
- Don't rush, 2018 is a long time away (???)
- Possibility is 1% (so... the guy is sane after all?)

Oh, and apparently I'm wrong that no figure skater has attended five Olympics. I think one dance or pairs team have. I don't think a singles skater has though.

 Oh my, sandpiper - you're slaying me here! I'm loving it! ;) Please keep up the good work!

I am just thinking, if Speedy down and we have someone as Plushy as the head of ISU, that would be much more fun. Each month we will have some fun title like as the headlines:

"Head of ISU's calls his old rival an average skater!"
"Head of ISU only support young skaters that admire him!"
"Head of ISU is supportive of a long program with 5 quads which is impossible for human body! This man is crazy!"
"Head of ISU and his iconic sex bomb program!"

;) That would be fun!

Brilliant! The possibilities are endless! The King for President! At least he won't be doing crazy stuff like trying to eliminate the SP! And what crazy stuff he DOES do will at least have the merit of being entertaining. Oh, and he'll keep FS thoroughly in the spotlight! The longer I ponder it, the better the idea seems! :)

Well, didn't take him long, did it? Can't say I'm surprised. Remember how annoyed he looked when people asked if his retirement meant "retiring from the ice"?

Glad to see all the well-wishers on Twitter supporting him, but cautioning him to take it slow. After getting used to the idea of his return for a day, I've gone back to being worried.

Maybe we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves, but something on Dai's thread prompts me to ask the question here too. With the new rule allowing lyrics, what are the chances Plush will take advantage of it? Any songs you think could work for him? (I can't get behind the lyrics rule, but since it's there, might as well as use it. If anything, his return will allow him to do something he's never gotten to do--compete with lyrics. Man, just thinking about it makes me realize how many eras he's spanned. 6.0, all the variations of IJS, and now lyrics time).

Oh, and the new edge rules...

Hmm...songs with lyrics..."I'm Still Standing" or "The B!tch Is Back" by Elton John  I don't really know though...he has his musician friends and they could potentially put together something new for him. Of course, this is assuming he even makes it past the test skate on June 1.

I'm curious about this Japanese tv special/documentary (?) and why this particular 9-year-old skater was sent to interview him...was she a big fan of Plushy beforehand? I can't wait to see the finished product.

I find music like that too risky. It's like on American Idol: when you sing a song about going home, you often are sent home that night. Not sure how "I'm still standing" would come across on the off-chance he falls. I still feel like Chan lost OGM because Four Seasons was too frantic and highlighted all his stumbles, on the crescendos of the music. I hope he doesn't skate to a Dima Bilan song though. I know they're friends but I have a feeling it won't go over well with the judges.

I'm curious about what this documentary with Miyu is about too.

Oh, I was just being silly and thinking about songs that would send a strong message to the haters. But I'm sure Plushy would go for something much more serious and save the silliness for the gala.

I don't think Dima's pop music would be a good idea, but did you know he is also a trained opera singer? That could be interesting...

I know, I was just giving a silly reply to a silly answer. :)

Woah, I had no idea Dima could sing opera! My respect for him just rose a lot. Though... I gotta admit... really threw me off when he started that countertenor part. A man singing that won't go over well with the (conservative) judges.

A bit more seriously: I really liked the Tosca that Plush skated to at Opera on Ice--better, performance-wise, than the Olympics SP that held the world record for a quad (until he broke it himself!), imo. I'm not sure if "vocal version of old program" will go over well with the judges, but an opera song in that vein could work. I also wouldn't mind seeing him skate to "fun" programs like the old (2002 and earlier) days. He likes Russian folk songs, right?

I read the program with him and that little cute Japanese girl will be aired this weekend. I hope someone will upload on youtube and we will see him on the ice.

It'll be aired this weekend? I'm really looking forward to it! (Assuming it finds its way online).

I hope he doesn't try anything rash on the ice. It's too soon. He should take the time to just skate, feel the ice, relax...

That costume plus the hair pushed back made him look three times hotter than normal. (but can't dislike he mullet. That is when he started winning. Getting rid of it was probably bad luck

I'll probably get assassinated by the fashion police for saying this, but maybe he should bring the mullet back. I'd rather he skates well with a mullet than struggles without one. And I kinda have a thing for guys with long hair.

That's a lot of hair! And a lot of beard, which I hope he doesn't bring back. He probably thought it was a bit silly to be sporting a bright blond mullet for the Olympics at 31, but it's his trademark! (In my weirdo vision.) I wonder how he can skate with the hair flying everywhere. It just seems to settle back into place--wish my hair did that, lol.

Plushy tweeted today that the 3-hour(!!!) film about him will air on Japanese tv on May 3 (19:30 on channel TBS, just in case we have any Japanese fans here). Wonder how long we will have to wait to get it online (hopefully w/subtitles). I think it's pretty fantastic that even in a country with as many brilliant skaters as Japan, they still respect and admire Plushy. I know where Yuzuru will be on May 3 :laugh:
