I didn't see the first group at all, was putting up the notes from the Men's Short program.

WHAT A NIGHT OF LADIES SKATING!!!! 5 STANDING OVATIONS IN A ROW!!!!!!

Here's the notes on the skaters I saw. Placements are just for the free program.

NOTE: Skaters are shown in start # order. The marks shown are what I wrote down as they were announced – there could be mistakes. The ordinals are what my program has calculated, again, there could be mistakes. The placement sometimes will be the official placements (if Skate Canada gets the results out quick enough) or might be what I managed to get down in the second or two that they flashed it on the board. <G> Anyway, it’s better than nothing J

I’m not perfect on the jumps – sometimes I miss a takeoff, so feel free to make any corrections or ask questions

To paraphrase Rod Black, the Jennifer Robinson era has come to a shocking end! I expected the judges to hold J.SLo up, but thankfully they didn't. Although Jen is a terrific competitor, she never did much to represent Canada. He only lasting legacy, IMHO, will be her longevity and charming personality. But now I think it's time for her to move on. (However, I wouldn't be surprised if Skate Canada decided to send her and Rochette to Worlds, to play it "safe":rolleye: )

On the other hand, it's nice to see older skater who take the time to improve and put their mature skills to the test. But they shouldn't expect to win.

That youngster Mira Leung did nothing for me. Could someone explain to me why she is constantly in that forward, lunging position, he upper body in an angle?

In short, I really felt sorry for Jennifer, but she might have overstayed her course.

i had a question about the winner... her name is escaping me though.

she is 15, correct? didn't the ISU make some rule against sending those younger than a certain age to worlds unless they medalled at junior worlds the previous year? i thought that age was 15, of maybe this is just the USFSA that does that?

just wondering.

I believe she is old enough. The commentators metnioned that Leung wouldn't have been. How old is Cynthia? I thought they said 16.

I thought they held her up some in the short program. Who knows if they did in the qualifying round.

Thank goodness there is finally a new Canadian ladies champion. This was by far the best ladies competition in Canada in years. I loved both Phaneuf and Rochette. With them, the future of Canadian ladies looks bright. They can both jump and they have the artistry necessary in the world of skating today.

I think Mira Leung is a great new talent as well. Obviously her presentation is not up to snuff yet, but she is only 14 years old and a few ballet classes could make all the difference.

You mean, they are not taking ballet classes? I would have thought that ballet would be part of the off-ice training for national level competitors. It's too bad if it isn't, because presentation is a big part of the program, as well as the jumps. Ballet helps with line and encourages a nice back, as well as nice arm movements.
