It's worth mentioning that Kovtun is listed as an alternate.

Ah, so there is an option for him to go if somehow he doesn't win this skate-off and doesn't get sent to Worlds.

Gosviani is also listed as a subsitute. I think this situation is similar to Kovtun's.

It's a rather short turnaround though, especially as they will be expected to skate as Seniors at the Russian Cup, and then if they should go to JW, as Juniors.

I tend to think Russia doesn't care, honestly. As long as they can skate well at both.

Well the question was answered for us - not sure about Gosviani, but Kovtun's not skating at the Russian Cup final. I tend to think that unless someone blows the roof off the place technically, Kovtun will go to SW.

I can understand that doing all 4CC, Junior and Senior Worlds might be a bit too much of a strain for Yan Han (I hope he's going to fake London!) but why no alternates? The seniority thing is just so frustrating, they have plenty of skaters, give somebody the opportunity!

Menshov won Russian Cup so perhaps now Kovtun competes at JW? In which case, winner is up in the air. If neither Yan or Kovtun complete, the podium is up for grabs, maybe skaters like Hino, Jin, Kolyada, Uno, or Omori can wind up with medals!

I just saw Han Yan's name disappeared from the entry. Wonder if it suggests he is going to Senior Worlds or he is injured.

If both Kovtun and Han Yan are out, Josh Farris and Jason Brown are logical contenders.

Yes and the others I mentioned could likely contend for the empty podium spot.

And in some ways, idk what to expect. Maybe we are in for a surprise. I love Josh's skating and would be thrilled to see him win, but he just had a stunning Nationals so I wonder if he may have peaked there and whether or not he'll be able to pull out another great pair of skates here. Jason is due for a really good competition, but the 3a is still so new so not sure what to expect. Maybe Hino could pull an upset and win the whole thing? His skating has really grown on me this season, I especially like his SP.

Through Yan's twitter asked about his health, he just said he is OK and practicing just as usual. When asked about Senior Worlds, he just keeps silence.
