How did Canada manage 3 spots for men? I though someone had to finish in the top 10 for that to happen. Nam Nguyen was 12th, and Mitchell Gordon finished lower than that.

Two spots. Nguyen was 12th. Gordon was 16th. Together they made 28, which is what is required. Had Nguyen been 13th, only one spot. Had Gordon been 17th, he still would've gotten 16 points and been okay (all FS qualifiers get 16 points max).

 Oops, I had meant to ask how they managed 2 spots. Regardless, thanks for the explanation!

What place you need to get 2 spots? Thanks

If one skater is competing, they need to place:
1-2 for 3 spots
3-10 for 2 spots

If two or three skaters are competing, the combined total of the top 2 skaters needs to be:
2-13 for 3 spots
14-28 for 2 spots

If a skater places 16th or lower, he gets 16 points.

Not qualifying to the free skating/dance equals 18 points, IIRC.
