Scores at local competitions are not comparable both for each other and hi-level (like Nationals) competitions.

Scores may be both higher or lower. I remember Summer competition at 2012, where all the skaters had very low PCS (significantly lower than the same skaters obtained at other competitions, including Nats). Scores because of this were low.

Yes, they are not perfectly comparable to each other and isn't a perfect indicator to Nationals.

Still, I do still find it noteworthy that we're seeing some 60+ scores from a number of couples; not just a few. My hope is this level of skating continues.

We usually just go to John Lindell ice arena in Royal Oak, it's about 20 minutes from DSC.

Amazing how the last couple years there has been no depth in US Pairs skating now we've had like 5 teams so far get over 60 points in the SP so far this summer. Looks like the US Pairs depth has really been rebuilt in almost record time considering the lack of teams just last year at Nationals.

Well, I know you're all on the edge of your seat, waiting for me to provide insight. It would be cruel to deny you any longer.

Love their extension. And posture, especially hers. Loved the lift. Did not love the SBS 3T, but I suspect that will work itself out. Also, thumbs down on exit of death spiral.

Seemed a little slow in places, although there were some very nice transitions. Altogether an elegant program.

Now, on to the costume. I don't quite know what to think of it. I'm generally a traditionalist, but I like the choice in this instance, because it showcases their best features, namely line and elegance.

I think I'm a fan.

I don't think those are their costumes -- I think they are practice outfits they are skating in until the costumes come in. :)

OK, I'm an idiot!

If they skate in something else, I'm off the bandwagon!

Well, since I'm out on that limb, let me say I think they really should consider skating in something similar. It really does highlight their beautiful lines.

It seems to me that either all the pairs this season have upped their games, seeing as the top 5 teams scored in the 60's even though it's still the summer.

I've been a Mariah Bell fan since i first saw her at Nationals in 2011 as a novice. She had that watch me gene and if she ever ups her technical level to match her performance level she will be someone to watch out for in the future.

15 (ETA, now increased to 23) off-ice photos -- incl. skaters from singles, pairs, and ice dance + coaches -- are in IN's 2013 Skate Detroit photo gallery:

I looked through the Skate Detroit schedule this morning and found Jr. and Sr. Short Dance and Free Dance info. Short dance (combined Jr. & Sr.) will be Friday night at 10:30 and competition ends about 10:55 - can't be too many competitors. The Free Dances are scheduled at the end of the competition on Saturday night (about 10:15).

From @LynnRutherford yesterday:
Skate Detroit: Juniors Logan and Bye, and Hawayek and Baker; and seniors Hubbell and Donohue, to show short dances late tonight.

Based on this photo tweeted yesterday, it seems that Chan did not wander too far away, LOL.

Didn't they do the SD on late Friday night per the schedule that MFarone posted? Were A/E skating too?

ITA, I've been watching her the last two or 3 years and have seen her at skate Detroit the last couple years, I love her! She really knows how to grab your attention already. I can't wait to see how the rest of her season goes.

Rutherford's tweet is consistent with MF's schedule. As indicated above, Rutherford tweeted yesterday (Friday) that SDs would be "tonight" (i.e., Friday night).

(Sorry, don't know either way about A/E.)

Zhang & Bartholomay FS: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SoUOUkJN6sU

They won the FS with a score of 116.87

I have a very good feeling about this team. I really think winning bronze at nationals was a huge confidence booster because they are really excluding confidence right now. Zhang, in particular, is impressive in how she held on to some of the jump landings in this program.

I like the music cuts in this program and I think this program has room for growth.

Oh, I am so happy for them! This program has some good bones, and I can even forgive their choice of music.

A FS win over a stellar team like MT/M should give their confidence another boost, even though MT/M had some uncharacteristic errors and their program is also a work in progress. For a young team, a win is a win!

Other than the top 2, I haven't watched any of the programs. Anyone out there have a selection they thought stood out?
