Surprised that no one has mentioned this here yet, but Marina Anissina is supposedly coming back to Ice Dance for Sochi at the request of the French Federation after Pechalat and Bourzat placed 6th at worlds.

Well, this is one of the funniest news I've heard during the last years! But, knowing how the Fench Federation (and ITS PRESIDENT) usually behaves, I wouldn't be surprised if someone actually asked her to do so...

Yeah, and Russia is asking the Protopopov's to come back too to ensure they win a pair's medal :)

I think it would be a bit too late to find her a partner now unless Peizerot is also coming back but even then it is a whole new world from when they skated and to be frank they were a bit lucky to win. If krylova's back had not given out they would have been silver.

They can get Slutskaya and Linichuk and Karponosov back as well and then they (along with Plushenko) can party like it's... well a long time ago...

Let's dream big and bring back Kira Ivanova from the dead. But seriously I believe Anisina could come back as a coach but to compete now I doubt it.

Well, Italy could ask F-P/M to come back as well for the second time, so we could see another battle for the 2002 Olympic gold in 2014! ;)

lets have Surya Bonaly return for Gold in sochi :disapp:

Surya did have intentions on coming back in 2006 for Torino but the ISU was not to keen on the idea.

As for this debate, well we do see comebacks prior to the olympic year, in Ice Dance Fusar-Poli-Margaglio and Drobiazko-Vanagas to name a few. At first I thought it was a publicity stunt but it maybe that it was misinterpreted, Marina might have stated she would like to return to competition and it was taken too seriously. Normally both partners would make the statement and not one - so I wouldn't think that Gwendal would come back!, they are of the old 6.0 system and not COP so it is a different ball game, and would they have sufficient time to come back!! very doubtful - would they go back to Boucher-Zazoui?

We shall see, I would like to see them back and compete (the 2nd spot for FRANCE is very much open!) but i find it very doubtful, would they get a place at Trophee Bompard to test their programs? or an invitational B event?

She is 37 and return wound be hard and it's weird that no talk of a partner before she said anything! Pole she can't compete alone! Some are acting like 6.0 ice dance had no Athleticism though.

Apparently the French Fed is displeased with Carron/Jones and feels there's really no other current team good enough to represent France at the Olympics. But what about Papadakis/Cizeron, who won silver at JW? Why not give them a shot?

IMO asking Anissina/Peizerat to return seems outlandish to me---but so typical of the French fed.

There is a significant void in French Ice Dance. Is it a coaching issue? Carron and Jones have been on the scene for a long time now and I think they were ranked lower than the Junior team that competed at French Nationals in 2012. I think that letting Delobel and Schoenfelder compete in 2010 leaving P/B at the #2 team was a big mistake IMO. It kept the other teams down.

New interview (in Russian) with Anissina published today (Jun 18)
Lol. She said that CoP makes it possible to teach bears to dance, the same way as they do it in the circus- by repeating the same stuff over and over again. You don't have to be special. It's one of the reason why the popularity of fs declining worldwide, she said. She sees her mission as to bring something new and creative. Yeah.
