Excerpt from the OP by martipellow2
I have always been a great admirer of Rosalynn Sumner's skating. There are a few gaps in my knowledge of her career. I wonder if anyone saw her perform at the 1981 Skate America where she finished fourth. She once gave an interview where she said she landed five triples in that competition and I wondered what they were. I heard she was capable of doing the lutz. I also wondered what jumps she landed at the 1982 NHK Trophy where she finished second to Katarina Witt. And most intriguingly, what happened to her at the 1983 Zagreb Golden Spin where she finished second to Sandra Dubravcic? She must have missed a lot of her jumps. Does anyone have any details? Any knowledge much appreciated. I wish she would write an autobiography.

For fans of Rosalynn Sumners, I found this rare video of her at 1981 Nationals where I believe she finished fifth. Fourth or fifth. It's a bit blurry but still gives you a good feel for the program. She had more technical content here than she did at the 1984 Olympics. Maybe even a better program

Great thread.

I liked Rosalynn's skating when she was an eligible athlete, but was entranced by her professional artistic range and output. Especially the years she skated at the World Professional Championships in Landover (which I was fortunate enough to see in person, twice).

Here is my favourite performance from Ms Sumners.

Wow, has it really been 35 years? I remember really liking Rosalynn back then and thought of her as a very complete skater. essence_of_soy, I was also at a number of the Landover competitions but I don't remember if I saw Rosalynn. I must have, but those competitions got to be so long, my brain turned to fuzz.

Thanks for the links!

The two times I went, competition didn't finish until well after midnight! Must have been tough on the skaters to compete two programs back to back as well.

Landover was eventually split into two consecutive evenings, as a result of this, I guess.

I've just updated Rosalynn's OP. I've added table results, bio and program information and as many videos as I could find. Enjoy :)

I always thought Rosalynn had a lot of connecting steps into her jumps and spins in the later parts of her programs often to very musical, crowd pleasing music. I wondered if this was a reflection of her expertise in figures. I felt that she would have gotten excellent transitions and connecting steps scores in today's scoring system.
