Substitutes - Ogoreltseva, Sotskova.

Medvedeva, Sakhanovich, Sotskova - best of Russian Ladies who don't have GP Events.
If skate good - close to Radionova. If skate not so good - close to best of Pogorilaya past season.

What a nonsense - to give leaders the same Event. If different Events - all of them pretend to gold. If the same Event - they beat for one gold medal.

Canada has named only Chartrand for the Riga JGP, which means Japan gets an extra lady. Skate Canada is shooting themselves in the foot by not using the spots it has been allotted. The Japanese ladies are quite competitive, so why give the one Canadian lady an additional tough competitor?

The US is sending only one pairs team, and Canada is sending only two, when they are allowed three teams. However, the junior teams from these two countries aren't all that competitive.

Does Canada have enough Junior Ladies to fill all the spots?
Gabrielle Daleman
Alaine Chartrand
Julianne Séguin
Larkyn Austman
Who else?

(Veronik Mallet was born Jun 11, 1994, she is not age eligible).

Btw, Canadian criteria for JGP http://www.skatecanada.ca/Portals/2/PDFs/2013-2014JPG-International-Selection-Criteria-EN.pdf
Ladies:
Short – Triple/triple combo, triple loop from steps
Free - Five triples (preference to four different triples)
International scores of previous season not less than 125.
Skate Canada reserves the right to not fill all open entry spots. Only those skaters meeting the established criteria or who have placed in the top 4 at their first Junior Grand Prix event will be considered for an assignment

Japanese girls are not so competitive.
Yuka NAGAI - 135.80 personal best
Yura MATSUDA - 123.05 (at Triglav Trophy-2013 in SP she URed all three triples).

The US doesn't have that many JGP eligible pairs teams in the ISP though, and there's 5 events that include pairs this year. Therefore, 15 spots total and all I see in the ISP is Zaitsev/Stevens, Liu/Perini, Aaron/Settlage (barely, he was born on July 1st, 1992 and makes it by a day!), Budd/Cheban (Cheban barely makes it as well, 7/3/92), and Takai/Johnson, and Dai/Fishman. That's 6 teams, at 2 events each would be 12 slots needed total.

I wouldn't be surprised if they dono't give each team two slots, but they don't need to use all 15 available to do so.

Yu/Jin in the JGP... Again?!

Seriously?

The ladies competition looks very strong with Sakhanovich, Medvedeva, and Wang all having 3+3s, a potential spoiler in Chartrand, and Siraj and Nagai having good artistry (IMO)

Jimmy Ma, who looked very good at US Nationals, did not look good at all at Juniors at Liberty in July. His SP was pretty much a disaster and the LP not much better. In the SP, even his spins were dreadful.

Yes-I would be surprised if it's not Serafima, Evgenia and Angela on the podium, though spoilers are welcome.

JGP for ladies are so competitive this year, though well-maybe not for JGP Mexico.

In dance, BENT / MACKEEN (CAN) and McNAMARA / CARPENTER (USA) look strong.

Daria KOROTITSKAIA / Maksim SPODIREV UKR were pretty good last year; I wonder how much they have improved? Pogrebinsky/Gudis did not totally impress at LPIDC, sad to say.

Angela Wang at Broadmoor Open 2013, only SP - 2A, 3Lz+2T, fall in footwork, 1F (info from Sylvia's site)
How skated Karen Chen - we all know. Glacier Falls Final - 119.29 (FS), Group A - 179.39 (SP+FS) (3Lz+3T, 3F, 2A+3T, 3Lz, 3Lo, 2A, 3S+2T in FS), Chesapeake Open SP - 61.34 (source of info the same)

It is, as for me, enough reason to give Karen chance to compete with Medvedeva and Sakhanovich. It will be real competition.
Wang in state as above can't compete with them. But may have a chance later in better state.

Broadmoor is one of the earliest summer competitions, so it isn't quite fair to compare a program skated in late June with a program skated in early August. IIRC, Chen skated in some earlier competitions, and her performances were good but not quite as good as her earlier ones.
