How sad. I was one of the many who faithfully watched Captain Kangaroo as well, but he also played Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy Doody Show in the late 1940's. I remember that as well. Clarabell never talked but communicated by squeezing the bulb of the most raucous sounding bicycle horn. It was totally hilarious.

That's sad-I watched him, too, when I was a kid. I didn't know he played Clarabell! He was so great!
