Ha, I was wondering why there were no new posts here (from the index). Forgot you're just editing in things as they come up.

Poor Liubov. Falling from near medal contention.

Karen with a very low score :( the nerves got the best of her

I watched the video of her performance. The 3Lz-3T and 2A-3T were underrotated, even to the naked eye. And she popped her second double axel, so she didn't do a 3 jump combination.

The Russian girl (Medvedeva) was clean, but I think way overscored on TES for her tiny, barely-eeked out jumps (even with two 3-3 combos.) The judges on the JGP seem to love 13-year-old Russians with tiny, tiny jumps.

Medvedeva was absolutely lovely, with two triple triples including a 3S 3T in the second half!

What are the judges supposed to do? Give -3 in goe for a fully rotated and landed jump based on some idea of if a jump isn't a certain amount of height off the ice it's bad? Or how about invalidating jumps that aren't a certain size? And does the size of the skater matter? Over 5 foot jumps have to be certain height under 5 another! This tiny jump criticism is just so meaningless it matters if they are rotated and done!! Landed! Just ridiculous!

Not to mention the skater herself is pretty small and had good runout out of her jumps. I didn't nnotice about the transitions into them, so someone else can comment on that. I see no reason why her jumps should get negative GOE. I don't even think they're that small, actually.

Medvedeva:  I really liked the program artistically, and I actually think that her jumps are better (in height and technique) than Lipnitskaya's for example...
Sotskova: shame for the fall (and for the costume! it's just :slink: ), but she's good, could easily qualify for the final...
Chen just crumbled under pressure I think (her jumps were not UR and two-footed like that in her summer competitions), the same for Efimenko. Chartrand skated quite well, she could be Osmond's heir if she keeps improving!

IIRC karen had some bad URs last year at Us Nats so it's not terribly surprising if she fell on old ( bad) habits sido due to competition nerves. I think her jumps have really improved since switching to Tammy Gambill
