The key guy is the specialist, in this case Dostatni, who has been a very easy, but somewhat erratic marker sometimes. The Asst. Specialist is Galit Chait (whom you might remember from a huge hoohah involving petitions by skaters, protesting her bronze medal win with partner Sergei Sakhonovsky at Worlds 2002.

Horen only votes if Chait & Dostatni disagree.

What competitions are you referring to (about Dostatni)?

I'm thinking of last year's 4CC's when Gilles & Poirier got some huge tech gifts from the panel, for example. Dostatni was on that panel.

Off topic:
Gilles/Poirier recently competed at a lower-profile competition in Canada. IIRC, their SD score was approx. 59. (They did not compete in the FD.)
Not sure if this news was mentioned elsewhere on GS.

I don't remember if it was mentioned. It's good to hear that Paul is back on the ice and in competition shape. Were Ralph & Hill at the same competition? If so, what were their scores?

The competition was Skate Canada Central Ontario's Octoberfest, which had only four entries each in the SD and FD.
Ralph/Hill were not there at all.

They are perhaps all competent, but that doesn't mean they are all eagle-eyed, finding every fault, or that they are all easy-peasy either.

Some will always be tougher than others.

I remember Dostatni being really harsh on Delobel/Schoenfelder.

It's still painfull to me. 2005 Worlds, 2006 Olys...
Frida was killed to put a medal around G/G's neck.
I still remember Tarasova being quoted early september saying G/G had that medal locked. Good deal for everyone (Russian for gold, silver for USA and G/G on the third step) except D/L came with their best combination of programs ever... Too bad they couldn't in the end battle to kick out of the olys podium the worst team ever to step on it. Those Games were a tragedy for ice-dancing.

As to Galit Chait, she was on the 2011 GPF panel that gave level 4 to almost every team for almost everythin, and was particularly lenient on the Rhumba pattern dance.

Tessa & Scott got what is still their best ever FD score at this event.
Oh yes, I remember very well this aspect of that competition! The TESs were  (and then never went back to that level in international competitions for the rest of the season :slink: )

You're right, especially considering that G/P and the Shibs scored 97 and 96 for their FDs at 4CC and then 81 (with a mistake in the twizzles) and 91 at Worlds (with a clean skate)... :rolleye:

I'll never get over this. :(

Now I'm worried that the scoring is going to be a mess.

True, but that's why there are two tech specialists in each event. If both Chait and Dostatni are "easy" on tech in ice dance then this competition should have an abundance of Level 4's.

The judging was ....ok.....yeah....just ok....
I disagree with Alexandra and Mitchell's marks and Madison and Zachary's marks-- should've been higher.
The Russians were way too high, Germans marks were right and to an great extent i agree with the top 2 canadians marks.
