what a deliberate yet ignorant video

notice they use two women kissing because if it was two men this would get an even lower support
women in Russia kiss on the lips as acts of friendship, so I didnt get what this convey
was it a video or a western lesbian porn fetish ?

the vidoe is a joke

They used two women kissing either because that's how the ad worked out. it's interesting the first thing that came to mind for you is lesbian porn though......

of course it has to be two women where in many parts of Europe it is common
or in North America it is asociated with lesbian fetish

chickening out ? use two men instead !

Wow that's a crazy thing to say, in everywhere it's associated with lesbian fetish but I think that kiss could never be classified as porn. I was commenting on how you must spend a good deal of time thinking of things such as lesbian fetishes and porn for that to be the first thing to spring to mind....

Oh, whatever. If they used 2 men, you would have still found some criticism. So you're saying that the message doesn't get across because it will be interpreted as 2 women doing something commonplace or fulfilling some lesbian fetish? Or maybe you were hoping to see 2 guys kiss? ;)

It's a well done commercial.

I wonder what the target audience of this ad is, and what the folks who made it want the viewers to think about or to do.

I am trying to imagine the reactions a typical straight American male might have to the ad. I came up with these:

1. Aww, young love. Isn’t that sweet.

2. I wouldn’t mind kissing both of them.

3. I wish some pretty girl would look at me the way that skater is looking at her girl friend.

the targeted audience is for the heterosexual male with lesbian fetish

I don’t think fetish is the right word. Heterosexual men are attracted to women. So it does not seem weird that a woman might be attracted to women, too. Women are, well, attractive. What is truly bizarre (not that anyone is complaining) is that women are attracted to men.

You're ridiculous. So... if it was two guys then the target audience would have been a heterosexual female with a M/M "fetish"? And any pro-LGBT ad that shows two people of the same gender kissing is to be considered straight fodder for some gay or lesbian fantasy?!

Homosexuals loving each other is not something to be "fetishized" and isn't some sexual "fad" or "behaviour". If an ad showed a white woman kissing a black man, you wouldn't say something stupid like the ad is targeted towards an audience with an "interracial fetish". :rolleye:

I doubt they will be able to air it publicly in Russia where minors could see during the Olympics.

Really, was/is there ever any lesbian/lesbians in figure skating?:sarcasm:

I don't think anyone would waste their media dollars airing that in Russia anyways. It's like airing an ad for a steakhouse in a country full of vegetarians.

And yes, there are lesbians in figure skating. This may come as a huge, non-stereotypical, non-gender normative, mind-blowing surprise to you, but there are lesbians in every sport with females in it. :rolleye:

Also, in case you weren't aware, there are also straight male figure skaters, too. ;)

Impossible!

(though that did bring to mind this episode of FRIENDS - http://youtu.be/BMXlt66cU3U)

Hah, I love that episode, and that clip is brilliant. It points out all the absurdity of it all. "I thought my straightness was a phase" "How long have you known you were straight?", which obviously pokes fun at how ridiculous it is in a gay context. Sometimes just interchanging "gay" with "straight" is enough to point out the hole in a homophobe's comments. One of my favourites is when a straight male co-worker asked me "Well, if you've never been with a woman, how do you know you're gay?", to which my obvious answer was "Well, if you've never been with a man, how do you know you're straight?"

I always feel bad for Phoebe, though.

The question is not whether anyone wants two men kissing in the ad. The question is whether two men kissing ad would sell to hetero society?

Politically correct. Any examples that most people know?

In case you were not aware, most gay male figure skaters live in North America and western Europe.:p

seems western culture has a fetish for girl-girl
had this been men kissing, this would get even more negative reaction

Wow, you just don't get it, do you. So, if the skater isn't a prolific example of a lesbian, who most have heard of, then all of a sudden that means there aren't any in the sport? You do realise that before a notable/high calibre athlete comes out, there are still members either currently or in the history of their sport who are gay/lesbian, just not out about it. That's like saying there weren't any gay tennis players before Martina Navratilova/Billie Jean King. And how absurd/ignorant would it be to say there weren't any "black figure skaters" before Debi Thomas showed up?

Also, there are plenty of ads of two men kissing that promote same-sex equality and ones that show two women kissing, and ones that don't show same-sex couples kissing at all to convey an idea. It's not about "selling ourselves" to heteros too. It's about illustrating how an LGBT athlete might feel in Sochi if they were unable to express affection for their partner, just as a straight athlete is at complete liberty to do. And how is this ad propaganda aimed at children, when it so obviously conveys the stigma and discrimination associated with being LGBT?
