Ok, far enough Off topic now... bring it back to skating, if you want to have a history conversation, the Ice Dance thread isn't the place... :slink:
It was meant as a judging thing, but your right.
I have to say that I really liked W/P performance today and I can't wait for their tango tomorrow.

Doesn't matter. Most Ukrainians hate Russia, and yet there is still love in judging.

there is a difference because Ukraine despise Poland more than Russia as to with the judging preference will always be with the neighboring east

Yeah because nothing makes the heart grow fonder than erasing your country off the map, violent repression of your culture and mass murder.

Aha. Only you forgot that in Poland a lot of former communists are still in high positions in the media and in the business , a lot of children of communists are in high position in the media and there was no clearing accounts with communists like in other "eastern european" countries. Yes, a lot of people dislike Russians and communists, but there are some who do not.

NO, some Ukrainians despise Poland, particularly in the eastern part of Ukraine, and some (in the western part) do not. Some like Russians and some do not. In some places taking in Russian may put you in the trouble and in some it will make you a lot of friends.
Nothing is as simple as the outsider's view ;-)

sorry for OT

What I meant to say is that the number of immigrants etc. is not important.
What important is the relationship between the countries.
I can see both Poland and Russia as part of an "eastern bloc" during the time of USSR and a few years later.
I don't think, however, that the geographical blocs matter today.
It's more of "Quid pro quo" thing.
And the relationship between Poland and Russia is absolutely abysmal. You clearly haven't read anything about their history. If Poland was part of the 'eastern block" during the USSR, it was by force. Poles are some of the most anti-Russian people in the world.

Getting back to Ukraine, it's likely that there are many ethnically Russian people in the skating community. Why do I think that?
1) Many have origins in the eastern parts of the country.
2) The Ukrainian skating fed website is all in Russian language, not Ukrainian.
3) All skaters' names are in Russian form. When was the last time you heard of a skater with a typically Ukrainian name like Mykola, Mykhailo, Pavlo, Serhiy, Oleksander, Oleksi, Dmytro, Andriy, Volodymyr, Kateryna? Instead, all I see are Russified names like Nikolai, Mikhail, Pavel, Sergei, Alexander, Alexei, Dmitri, Andrei, Vladimir, Ekaterina.

So yes, it's possible that Ukrainian officials could be biased in favor of Russia. But that's not the case in Poland.

hmm, Germany is Western side. Israel is ...not the Soviet side, is it?

Are you sure Michael Webster is German?
I've never heard of him. After googling his name I rather think that he's Italian.

Communism has been over for a quarter century. I doubt Russian-loving communists are still dominating the Polish skating community.

What's your glorious argument? Let me guess -- I/K, C/L, P/B aren't Canadian, and therefore you consider them superior? :sarcasm:

right, Nothing to do with not being Canadian
have you seen I/K and C/L programs ? they have better programs and higher lifts than W/P

So what. Communism has been over, but there is still (some) corruption. As for Polish skating community, you may be right.

I love how all these people who are saying that Bobrova and Soloviev shouldn't beat Weaver and Poje because all they have is speed are going to do a complete 180 at the GPF and say that Davis and White should be beating Virtue and Moir because they have more speed. :rolleye:

However you are wrong, Bobrova and Soloviev (may be) were fast but they were NOT CLEAN. You won't say THAT about D/W

Bobrova spent a considerable portion of that SD hunched over, so much so that whenever I see her anymore I start screaming STAND UP STRAIGHT YOU CRONE!!!!!!!!!! It drives me nuts.
