When were the tech panels actually assigned for the GPF? I have to believe it was long enough ago that the final roster of GPF competitors wasn't yet known.

Maria Tumanovskaya is known Ukrainian Ice Dance coach.
She is coach of Maria NOSULIA / Evgeni KHOLONIUK (8th place at JrWorlds 2012).

Isn't she a Russian living in Ukraine? I know this is a sensitive topic these days but I am fairly certain she is a Russian who happened to live in Ukraine and consider herself Russian as well, as do many Ukrainians of Russian origin.

Given the appalling judging at COR, I'd be just as interested in hearing who the full judging panels are for the event.

I feel confident the Ice Dance panel is going to be strict but fair. The referee has very little involvement and does not materially affect calls. The Technical Controller is the Chairwoman of ISU Ice Dance committee - given the mess we saw at CoR, it's rather reassuring to see her as the Technical Controller. Having a Technical Specialist who is a 3rd party at this competition and who is not likely to be "influenced" is also reassuring. The only ? mark I have is the Ukrainian assist tech specialist whom I believe is really a Russian. However, given whom the Tech Controller and the Tech Specialist are at this event, I don't expect this to be an issue.

Re: Shin Amano - he is a prominent Japanese skating coach and obviously, a well known ISU Technical Specialist. However, he is almost exclusively seen in Ladies event at high level competitions because Amano used to be Patrick Chan's coach. Having your coach, albeit a former one, being the Tech Caller in a competition will surely raise eyebrows, not that Chan has been affected much by calls over the years as he rarely ever get any edge calls or downgrades no matter who the tech specialist is. I think Chan has gone through an entire season without getting a single edge call or downgrade. So long as Chan competes however, it would limit Amano's opportunity to judge men's event, therefore, he is stuck with the ladies for now. Of course, in ladies' event, there are generally much more frequent edge calls and downgrades, which in turn, gave an impression that he is overly strict. The image may or may not be accurate however.

Perhaps I am a cynical New Yorker, but I'm not holding my breath. There are any number of ways scores can be manipulated, and with anonymous judging and no accountability, there is very little that can be done about it.

I much prefer a strict and fair panel. Leniency is inherently unfair.

It is harder for a tech panel to be biased because it makes calls on verifiable quality as a consensus, unlike the judges who give scores individually on more subjective qualities.

Mao ur'ed almost all jumps in her LP and almost none of them were called as such.

It's well within the rules for a judge to give the skater the benefit of the doubt if it's a borderline call. It's only extremely questionable if they were obviously over the 1/4 mark, which most of the jumps weren't. The callers at previous events were lenient but it was across the board, not just for one skater imo.

Not a good news for Asada, Wagner and Sotnikova. I don't think Amano going to call Asada's single looking loops as 2lo or Wagner and Sotnikova's cheated 3+3's. Lipniskaia's borderline flutz can be a problem for her too.

Not sure how you can call Asada's 2L as looking like a single but then say Lipnitskaia's flutz is borderline. Amano is strict and should certainly call out Sotnikova/Lipnitskaia and any flutzes.

Here's a funny thing about his name. The way Shin (真) is written gives it the meaning of 'truth.' Some of the Japanese fans that don't like him call him Shi (死) which is Japanese for death.
