I`ve been off the ice for several years, expecting to get back around the spring.I`m practically in withdrawal but here goes.As I slip on a black skirt or dress I start to get excited while putting my hair up thinking about what I`ll be working on today.I live in Florida so when I step into that cold rink I love that smell of the cold rink, the ice and as I lace up I can hardly wait.First that cold blast and the smellof ice I take my first few steps and everything is behindme.Forward and backward perimeter stroking ,wind in my hair friends all around I sink into that other world where ther es only me and the ice.If the ice is really clean and not too crowded I can hear my strokes long and clean quickening around the corners and as I get warmed up.If the lighting is right I can see my reflection like a friend skating withme. My layers are coming off and as I warm, the wind curls thru my fingers .As I start to warm up jumps I occasionally get the sensation that I am flying and somettimes a fall is a great slide and I don`t want to get up.Spinning is like visiting another planet and then poof you are back.As MK says skating is so soothing .I know of nothing in this world that makes me feel this way. Flying like a fairy......

My sentiments exactly! I skated for many years and this season have not had my skates on; However, on Monday I am going to venture out on to the ice - rusty perhaps, but nonetheless anticipating the joy that comes with skating!

I am not a skater, just a spectator but I agree; skating is very soothing - to watch as well. It just relaxes me to watch it. I also love the beauty and the artistry as well as the athleticism.

Figure skating is one of few sports with rich artistic feture. The athletic side makes the audience exciting, fast spins with all kind of veriations and good jumps are so spectacular. Music and good choreography can interpret an interesting story. It's more fun than ballet to watch. I fully realize that all figure skaters can not succeed without some ballet training.

Skating is a very soothing sport. It is one that is magical and when people like Michelle skate you are taken to another rhelm. I am so happy watching skaters, because I can see the pure joy they have for the sport and in their incredibly beautiful movements

For me I like the artistic choreography and the overall way skaters chose to portray themselves on the ice. It's interesting and insipring to see. But I think the what really gets me is the competitions.

For example, there was something about the Lillehammer games that is the essence of what I'm talking about but fail to describe articulately. It was the good sportsmanship among all the competitors, everyone bringing their personal best to the games (save Tonya), the tears, fears, and jeers. This why I love it and keep watching year after year.

I just love how it intertwines sport and art. It's incredibly athletic, yet there's room for so much creativity. I also love music, and it's great to see movement set to music.

I also love the difficulty of it. Anyone can learn to swing a baseball bat or throw a football with some amount of accuracy, but most people could never do a triple axel, quad, throw or twist.

The choreography, especially when the moves match so harmoniously with the music. And the delivery of the choreography: the flow, the grace, the smoothness, the line, the positions.

As a spectator (I'm too tall and clumsy to actually skate myself anymore, plus I've seen so much great stuff over the years that if I can't go out there and skate like Alexei Yagudin, I don't even want to try!:D ), I love nothing more than seeing a well-executed program with excellent choreography done to wonderful music. Plus it has also broadened my horizons musically -- so much wonderful music over the years that I would never have heard otherwise. And as self-appointed "fashion police", I never tire of making comments about absolutely HIDEOUS costumes....
