Mrs. Boitano passed away on January 29 after battling Alzheimer's. She was 89 years old. Condolences to Brian and his family. Mrs. Boitano sounded like a very lovely woman.

It's extra tough when a parent has a congnitive illness. I took care of my Mom for some years, and it was like saying goodbye many times over the course of time. But the last loss is still hard to bear. I wish Brian peace and strength.

Ironically, turns out that Billie Jean King will not be going to Sochi as part of the Opening Ceremony delegation after all -- because her mother is ill.
