The "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack

YES! I can't believe more top skaters are not using LOTR. I've always thought it'd be perfect for Davis/White to do. Actually, I want someone to skate to a LOTR/Game of Thones mashup (I'd be okay if Misty Mountain theme from Hobbit gets thrown in too :yay:).

Also, Doctor Who soundtrack - Murray Gold is brilliant and there's so much great material to choose from, and since some skaters are starting to use Piano Guys and because who doesn't love Star Wars, I'd like to see someone use their Cello Wars.

I haven't noticed any Harry Potter themes mentioned. There are some powerful pieces on the soundtrack. It could get get very tacky if not put together right I must admit.

I was thinking about this subject recently:

Does anyone think that "My Immortal" is something that could be skated to?
Jackie Evancho's cover of "Lovers" from House Of Flying Daggers (or anyone's vocal rendition, really).
Also "Se" again by Jackie, the love theme from the movie Cinema Paradiso.
One of the songs from Moulin Rouge? I'm partial to Jackie's rendition of Come What May with the Canadian Tenors (maybe for pairs?)
Lord Of The Rings would be fabulous.

Certain songs wouldn't work because there's necessary characteristics that are missing right? And what about the length? It would be the most challenging thing to combine different songs together.

But would "So Close" by Jon Mclaughlin, preferrably in French, ever work?

I would love to see more songs in other languages than English.

My favorite segment of a Harry Potter soundtrack is "Mischief Managed" from I think Prisoner of Azkaban. It's about three times too long, but there's plenty to be taken from it. And now choral music can be used, so that segment will be okay. There's a lovely slow section that's almost Elizabethan, around the 3-minute mark. The choral section, a setting of dialogue of Macbeth's witches, is around 7:20.

Sometimes when I watch skating videos on youtube I also turn on one of my favorite songs, just to seem like that is the program's actual music

-I always wanted to watch V/M dancing on Take that-Rule the world https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KII1ruAfvsg
-Within Temptation - The swan song (or something else from WT, maybe Ice queen or Angels) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQF-XtANvcU -for Mao
-anything from Nightwish (I would like to see V/T skating on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C1NIbHsXCws )
-almost anything from Sonata arctica (for Yuzuru or Patrick -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfI8o_hzaDk )
-Apocalyptica (again, this one for V/M or V/T https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MBH8361-Jnw )
-Led zeppelin -Good times bad times (for Javi SP..or even Denis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auYKJTv94Tg )
-something romantic from Whitesnake
-Scorpions (something well-known, Wind of change or Still loving you)
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9tKwSboJeg (for Gracie  )
-something from James Blunt, but not You're beautiful (because I'll remember of Lambiel's gala program)

I don't have the time right now to post links (lol maybe i'll try later) - but there is a lot of great contemporary south american music out there which seems to be ignored (and obviously i'm not talking about tango/mariachi music).

edit - you can say about more contemporary pieces from asian countries. i guess what i'm getting at is i'd love to see skates taking on *contemporary* pieces rather than the usual traditional - dare i say 'stereotypical' - typical pieces from, say, brazil, argentina, china, etc.

In other similar threads people mention Game of Thrones and I am soooo behind that

I know someone has skated a program to Doctor Who but it'd be nice to use other pieces of music from the show that are not the opening/action theme/Doctor's theme. This one in particular would make a lovely exhibition:

And it'd be fantastic to see someone pull of the music in this video:

Yuki Kajiura is a wonderful composer I love basically of her music/songs. So exhibition, competitive piece, whatever, I'll take it!

I know Kevin Reynolds skated to Chrono Trigger but there's more wonderful music in the game. Look into Chrono Cross and there's some lovely stuff in there too.

And because I recently watched all of Attack on Titan on Netflix I love the music in there, it ranges from fierce and powerful to pretty and emotional.

Actually Lang/Tchernyshev used Scorpions "Still Loving You" as their FD in 2003.

Händel's Hornpipe from Water Music n. 2

Mozart's Die Zauberflöte

Joe Hisahishi's Princess Mononoke

Handel and Mozart! especially for The Magic Flute!

A junior level US skater, Chase Belmontes skated to Princess Mononoke @ Nationals and medalled - great program!

Galit Chait and Sergei Sakhnovsky had a really great FD in the 2002-03 season with interesting edits from the "Lord of the Rings" soundtrack,

Thanks, I knew some pair or dance team had used it!

I love Smetana's The Moldau. parts of which would be good for Dance.

And I agree much of what was written during the romantic era of classical music would be welcome.

Yes!

Half joking and half serious, but I always wondered if anyone could pull off 'Circle of life' from the Lion King.

Nicole Bobek skated to it as an exhibition piece in Champions on Ice, I think. Also Surya Bonaly @ the 1996 Worlds Exhibition (2 backflips and a split on the ice).

Emanuel Savary (US junior/now a senior) did a medley of music from "The Lion King" as a competitive program 2 seasons ago (including the "Circle of Life"). Lots of beautiful instrumental music from TLK (my personal favorite being "Shadowlands). Wonderful program!

Someone mentioned the Harry Potter music - didn't Bebe Liang skate an sp to it a few seasons back? IIRC, it was a very memorable, magical program.

+1 All of the above.
There is some amazing Anime and Video Game music out there. A lot of music by composers like Mitsuda, Hamauzu, Uematsu etc. would probably work well. Kevin Reynolds skating to Chrono Trigger was great!

I am wondering if any of the choreographers or coaches are reading this topic...they would surly have some great ideas for the music they could use in the programs :love:

I skated to " Remember the Titans" Soundtrack and it was my favorite piece of music I ever skated to. I've always wondered why some of the elite skaters haven't used it. It's so powerful and perfect for skating. I really hope somebody picks it up because I would love to see a different interpretation.

One piece of classical music that no one ever seems to skate to is Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries.
Tough to get a rhythm going since it's such sweeping music, but I imagine it being performed with Viking helmets.
If anyone can interpret it with the proper grand drama it deserves, it's Plushenko!

You're right! What's especially exciting is that posters here have suggested music from a huge range of styles and traditions, not just the latest movie sound track or pop hit. An impressive and knowledgeable group of fans we have here on GS.
