Legends of the Fall is certainly one of James Horner's best scores, I agree. Full of scope for skating, and not as done to death these days because it's an older film. As for St. Elmo's Fire, I like the theme song "St. Elmo's Fire." Is that the music you mean?

I meant the lyrical version of "Just for a moment" by David Foster. I've always referred to it as the love theme but it may also be called St. Elmo's Fire, I'm not sure. Below are links to the the St Elmo' Fire, Legends of the Fall and the Piano respectively.

this is a problem with 80% of choreography these days let's be real

Really? I am being real. There are choreographers that can get it done without ripping off someone elses program from the past.
With a particular skater if you are using some of the same movement, then fine because that is their personal style or perhaps a signature movement for them.

The problem with much of this is the same 4 or 5 choreographers are working the chunk of the skaters.

Check yourself.

nooooo i was agreeing with you, 'let's be real' wasn't supposed to be snarky

on topic - i always thought someone should skate to explosive by bond, it's practically tailor made for a program full of jumps with all the accents in the music. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B42dozDeEfA

Legends of the Fall is right up there with East of Eden for "most beautiful soundtracks!" There was a brother sister pair team for the US that skated to Legends some years ago and didn't do it justice. Would like to see it used again.

Thanks for the links. Lovely to revisit good music.

The most recent film, "The Grand Budapest," had an amazing soundtrack by Alexander Desplat. Hope we see some good use of that one.

Re: Grand Budapest you beat me to it!! Desplat's scores are often very subtle (e.g. The Queen, Philomena), but TGBH was his first major showcase where the music wasn't made to just tinkle lightly in the background and really take centre stage along with the rest of the production details.

St. Elmo's Fire! That takes me back. :D

I think that from the same year, Quincy Jones's score from "The Color Purple" can be used effectively.

"The Piano" would be great, but IMO Delobel & Schoenfelder (I miss them still) did that to perfection at 2008W. That's a high bar to climb. That being said, another Jane Campion film which has evocative music was her follow-up "The Portrait of a Lady". It's not the most memorable score, but cut in the right way, would work as a dramatic solo piece for a single lady.

I'd like someone to skate to Quintessence of Dust by Govinda (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_VIQD_Z4FQ really cool Spanish & Indian fusion, some other good ones off this album, too, like Compassion, and In thru Time). Also love Makambo by Geoffrey Oryema (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWpERZAIy3E remember Pure Moods? :))

One of my favorite songs that is not quite long enough :)cry:) is The Dance by Tangerine Dream, for the movie "Legend" (it might work if you added a few seconds of ambient windchime at the beginning and end, sort of like the movie scene http://youtu.be/bWuToQn9VH4?t=1m45s).

Eine Alpensinfonie by Richard Strauss

Slavonic Dances by Antonin Dvorak

Nice choices! Lots of sections in each of these that could be used. There are about sixteen Slavonic Dances (two sets), and a few of them have splendid rhythms for skating. Well, they are based on dances. My favorites, just in terms of melody, not skateability, are (if I'm counting correctly) the fifth, the ninth, and the fourteenth.

The ending sequence of the Alpine Symphony is just sublime.
