Still don't get it why a Japanese ref would help out the Brazil team? Actually they are indeed a very strong team, they didn't really need such help. :disapp: I mean the Brazilians didn't threaten him with anything, did they?
Just like FS has speedy. FIFA has Blatter.

What I learnt today: Croatia has only 4.3m population. Brazil 200m.

I was pulling for Croatia in the end to tie but outside of sentimental reasons I think Brazil played better and probably should have won anyway. Despite any calls. I wonder what their PCS would be if there were judges? :slink:
Brazil is indeed much stronger than Croatia, that's why I said they didn't need such help. I mean it could have been just 2-1 and still their win anyways. :scowl: such obvious wrong calls will not be investigated for sure.

I have a feeling group C with Japan being in the 2nd place is a high probability.

That's exactly what I think too. ;) Furthermore do not forget that a ref. wants to make a career advancement and often they can get a post with FIFA after they retire.
Anyway, this Brazil is not a strong team at all - in fact it's one of the most mediocre Brazil's team I can remember - and they did need the help tonight. They sent a signal right from the first match, and I'm sorry for Croatia.
Unfortunately, it's not the first time and nor will be the last.

I am not Brazil's fan but I still think they are stronger than Croatia. They can win without such help, but that wouldn't be such an easy win as we have just seen.

Well, on paper they were/are stronger than Croatia (other teams as well are stronger than Croatia) and they have Neymar, Oscar, Alvez, JC etc. all good quality and great players, but in general and for Brazil standards this one is mediocre one as a team.
Also, let's not forget that the best or the strongest team doesn't always win. It depends on the night, in one particular match and many factors are involved. Italy was way better than England in Euros 2012 and had so many chances to score more than 3 goals I think, but they still couldn't and ended up in penalty shoot-out. Italy was stronger team than Australia in 2006 but god knows how that game would've ended if not for that (non existent) penalty they received in the last minute.

It's still early and Brazil can improve drastically, but I've been thinking this way since Conf.Cup, which they won, and have not seen improvements yet.

About the game tonight, for how the both team played, I think most probably would've finished in a draw.
Of course I can't say that for a fact but even after the penalty Croatia was attacking and had 2 good chances to score before the 3 goal from Brazil, which by the way came as a result of a foul play in midfield but the ref., again, didn't see. ;)

Anyway, as I said we've seen worse, but I really hope this is not a Korea 2002 all over, again.

I agree. Fundamentally, Brazil was way stronger. The only god Croatia could pray was luck. The team needs time, though - individually they are much stronger than as a group. But remember 1982. Italy in the group was a laughing stock with 3 draws and only 2 goals in 3 games. Brazil had the best team I have ever seen. And? What about the quarterfinal?

As for the penalty call, same as in Sochi FS - the "majority" thinks there was no penalty - Brazil thinks otherwise. For me it was a close call, but Brazil deserved the win.

Exactly. You and I both know that. They needed all the help they can get this time. They got skills sure but lost all the charm of Brazilian football. Even Roberto Carlos look like a ballerina compare to this team. I might be bias since Big Phil decided to cut my baby out of the team at the end. Com'on Coutinho has better performance this season than most Brazilian including the poster boy. Last night it was sad when the telly kept panning to Kaka on the stand.

Up until a few days before the first match, all the media(count out the us media, please) had been ga-ga about Ronaldo VS Messi and how strong the Argentina team. I start to worry about the Italian since they are only team threaten Brazil's the 5 time title holder.

I've been waiting for Keane/Vieira showdown for months. When Keane walked out still happy they got Terry and Cannavaro. They all the real badass stars but last night they played it safe. Being nice and trying to please the general public is not for them. Canna also talked about himself too much. Who want to know his experience being the ballboy. :rolleye:

When I realized that I watched Strachan played in his hay day, I realized that I might be too old for the new football.

I totally forgot about Coutinho. He is the only real Brazilian player together with the poster boy, and how Scolari can leave such a player out and take Hulk for example - the most stupid player I've seen on the pitch - it's beyond me.

I don't think Italy is a danger this year. I mean you never know with us, but we don't have many hope here in Italy between fans tbh. We have another defender who got injured yesterday and he is missing the first game, the other one Barzagli is not fit. He's coming from a long injury, so I really have no idea what to expect.

I heard the Cannavaro is with ITV. I had no idea he could speak english. I like Keane a lot.

This is fantastic.

Man, with all the news about riots and accidents, I think we should start to worry about not the outcome of each match, but the safety for all the ref and players.

Oh they are gonna be OK. They are protected and escorted by the police. Besides, I don't think people have anything against them.

My friend (a journalist) and currently working in Rio at the moment for World Cup, got robbed his camera last nigh. The safety for the journalists are not secured.
Just image what if Brazil couldn't reach the final match, there would be an uproar in Rio, given the current state. I hope WC 2002 will not repeat.

Yesterday someone threw the brick to ITV newsroom during the broadcast. They even joked about too bad Keane was not with them in Rio since he probably pick it up and threw it back out without the brink of the eye.

Cannavaro's English is surprisingly fluent actually, with cute accent of course.;)

Kinda miss German's Paul the octopus. Thank God Pele leave England alone this time. Feel bad for Chile though

Well, you were speaking about players and ref. Journalist are not escorted of course. They can't protect journalist wherever they go, they are not in organized group, with a schedule, like the players.

Oh well, I can very well imagine. In 1954 many people committed suicide when Brazil lost to Uruguay. :slink:

Poor Mexico.... think how bitter if Cameroon were to score now?

At the last Mexican goal chance - which they missed - and was offside anyway, apparently - I suddenly heard from behind me on the sofa where my cat Sassi was watching: "Mi-ya-ha!" she said in disgust and jumped off the sofa for some refreshment. Make of that what you will. :)

And what a deluge....
