I was invited to a Derby party on Saturday. That is my only proof that it's this weekend. Super :slink:

I still like Samraat. And Danza (named after actor Tony Danza) is getting some notice.

Hmmm, I live in Louisville, Kentucky and did not even remember the Derby is this weekend. Shows how much I know/care about it...............:slink:

Thanks, Iluvtodd!

I hope the weather is better along the East Coast on Saturday than it is today (and forecast for tomorrow also). As I understand it, today's weather is the pits all the way down to Florida. Aaag!

Wicked Strong is named after the Boston bomb survivors. And he's looking good.

Hoppertunity is such a great name! I was so sorry to hear earlier this week that he was out with an injury.

And oh, goody, Gary Stevens is riding! I don't know a lot about racing, but I've been a fan of Gary Stevens since learning about him as a result of his acting turn in Seabiscuit, where he played "Iceman" George Wolff.

^ Yes! Good luck to CA Chrome in the Preakness, too. All the best to all the horses & their jockeys today!

Nice! We did get to play back about 15 minutes of the coverage leading up to the race. We will have to catch up on the TV coverage of the Derby & Preakness a little later this week. Congrats to CA Chrome!!!

I was surprised that there were only about 10 horses in the Preakness. Are the trainers resting/saving some of the Derby horses for the Belmont?

Yes, some of them are being saved for the Belmont. Wicked Strong will be back. I was so excited yesterday! I didn't put money on any horses at my party until they all convinced me to do so. And I decided to only put money on California Chrome.

Could he be The One? It's been too damn long since we have had a Triple Crown--Affirmed in 1978. Please racing gods let it happen.
