Surprised that Alla Loboda is only 15, she looks more mature to me. I liked both Russian teams but they were my favourites. Their short was gorgeous but the FD maybe a bit too busy.

Started well but got frantic to me. Maybe with time it will get better, it's only the first event. She is very expressive and I like that.

Edwards/Pang left the door wide open with their low TES.

Was about to write abput her age ) Was quite surprised, too
I think the FD was rushed, I agree. But maybe it will look more smooth as the season goes on

Omg these kids (Nazarova/Nikitin)...their program is bizarre but I love it and  their lifts!

Yes, I love them!!! Haha, they have some interesting programs...

Also - I really like Lewis/Bye's FD for this year!! I think they have room to grow with it, but it already looks nice. Their SD needs some work...but I can't wait to see how these two progress. They're cuties!

IMO, Alexandra Nazarova and Madeline Edwards are getting too big for their partners. N/N's lifts were all of the low-to-the ice variety, and that can be very limiting. Some of E/P's lifts looked just plain awkward.

I believe Edwards & Pang may have lost some training time due to injury this summer, which may be affecting their lifts. I hope they look better at their next event.

I thought Lewis and Bye had a nice comeback in the FD. I was impressed with the high number of closed holds in that dance. It can use some finesse, but a great start!

Just checked videos and protocols... Edwards/Pang were gourgeous: loved their smooth (Canadian  ) skating skills, the fluidity and the joy that the program expressed, but in a mature way. Loboda/Drozd were good, too, and I appreciated the choreography, how well the spin went with the music, but some transitions (the one at the very end, for example) look still a bit too difficult for them... I think that they were judged very generously in the step sequences, though: the DiSt especially lacked speed and flow, there were a lot of flat edges and some turns looked very laboured, +2 seems a bit too much to me
One big question mark: level 1 for both of E/P's step sequences, WHY?! They looked wonderful to me, especially the DiSt! Does anyone have any technical understanding of what happened there? (Because that was what basically made the difference between Gold and silver :slink: )

I agree... ...I felt like N/N spent a lot of time low to the ice; and was a bit bummed (bc I like them). And during their programs, I noticed that she seemed taller to me...but then in their gala I didn't notice that quite so much...

Mrs.P Yes!!! I agree!!! :yay: L/B did have a nice comeback with their FD, which I quite like. I think they'll be fun to watch as the season progresses and they fine tune their programs.

Spilevaya/Smirnov are  wow!!!! new faves.

I thought the Mengs' programs were really unusual, in a way that worked for me, but I wonder how others felt. So much good skating overall in this competition. Dance competition was really great here.

I enjoyed the Mengs' programs as well. I thought their FD costumes were

Thanks to a possibility to watch Junior Grand Prix live I have some questions touching new ISU rules…it looks mysterious for me in some moments.

1) During Nazarova & Nikitin’s SD samba part the music suddenly stopped and started to play after 8 seconds again. During Samba sequence every couple must keep edges in Key Points for some sort of beats (when music is playing and kids can hear it). Althought the couple already made mistakes until that moment, I think that music interuption caused another loss of points thanks to no Key points matched (Level 1 for Samba sequence)… but what should be done correctly? Music problems could be caused by a problem in music set – which would be not the mistake of Ukraine kids. Shouldn’t referee stop them and allowed them to repeat from the part of music interruption?

The same problem in music happened to Canadian couple who finished second finally, even twice during FD, but fortunately it happened in moments which didn’t lead to any major mistake (and an interruption was much shorter). I didn’t find any notice about such situation (not necessarily caused by skaters) and how to solve it in ISU rules….

2) Second question is thanks to young promising Russian couple Anastazia Spilevaya & Grigory Smirnov, who won their first JGP medal (skating their first JGP). I watched them more times especially their unusual Twizzles. The couple performed the same twizzles in both SD and FD, in SD they got level 3, in FD level 4. I am curious what caused Level 4 call in FD.

Criterias of Level 4:
Different entry edge and different direction of rotation of the two Twizzles AND
At least 4 rotations in each of the two Twizzles AND
At least 3 different Additional Features (at least 1 of which being a Difficult Additional Feature) from 3 different Groups

The couple had different entry edge in two Twizzles.

The couple executed four turns in every set of Twizzles, but looking at note touching turns - A chosen Additional Feature from Groups A and B shall be considered for a Level if it is fully achieved and established:
- within the first half rotation of the Twizzle, and
- held until the number of rotations needed for that Level is fully completed (2 rotations for Level 2, 3 rotations for Level 3, 4 rotations for Level 4
).
Nastya and Grigory kept the position of up and downs in knees in first set of Twizzles for three turns, the position in second set of Twizzles almost four turns, the position of third set of Twizzles with keeping the free leg was kept for three turns. So fully suficient for Level 3, but not for Level 4.

Looking for Additional Features from 3 different groups…they met - straight arms clasped in front and extended away from the body from Group A, changing the level of the skating leg (knee) with a continuous motion from Group B, but I didn’t find any Feature from Group C, because they didn’t performed in an opposite direction and they didn’t have a jump entry and they had the same edge entry like in first twizzle (if they had a different entry edge in third set of Twizzles – the Feature could be confirmed then).

Does anyone know? Thanks for answer.

yes could anyone explain why Edwards/Pang got such low technical scores? Is it their lfts? step sequences? I'm in love with Maddie and ZhaoPai and really want them to be contenders for this year's WJC!

It is their step sequences that received levels 1, there's probably some problem with them...
