Even though it seldom matters whether Mirai lands her jumps 89 or 91 degrees short, because technical callers tend not to follow the 1/4 turn distinction and go by what they arbitrarily think is underrotated...

NOT true. Replay is available (realtime and slomo) and has the benefit of multiple camera angles. And there are 3 on the technical team: 2 technical specialists and a technical controller, who is a judge. If both specialists don't agree on a call, the controller settles the dispute and will refer to the replay to do so.

I think there's still quite a large issue as regards her underrotation. The reason I think this is still a problem is because she always looks so shocked when the TES comes up. She doesn't seem to know that she's doing it and seems genuinely shocked when the TES drops due to URs.

More than anything that is what worries me about Mirai. How can you fix a problem if you aren't aware there's a problem to fix?

This is a question for skaters from a non-skater. I read recently that Kanako (who has had persistent UR problems) is finally getting to grips with it. She's still reasonably young (20) and it's taken her, what, 2-3 years to make some progress? How do you go about fixing UR? Do you aim to overrotate? But you get penalized for overrotating as well, right?

I wonder about this too. I assume it is similar to muscle memory. Maybe you could use a harness and get your body (and mind) to re-adjust to when it needs to open up?
