Despite the obscene costumes, i tried watching Marin Honda and i have to say i don't think she's anywhere near as good as the superior Wakaba Higuchi is now.I don't understand why she gets all the hype when there's nothing much to see yet considering her young age.

Because last year she had already 3lz-3t and 2a-3t... this year unfortunately she has been dealing with injuries and growth spurt, so she took out some of her jump (in this Asian trophy she didn't even attempt 3lz and 3f) anyway if you want to see how good she is at her best search for last year junior national free skate :)

Excuse me, just a question:
who does get a free pass to national competition and doesn't have to take part in regionals?

EDIT
Mei Ito (11th at 2013 Jr nationals) was converted to ice dance with Kokoro Mizutani. She could do better than past similar cases. Hope they will put serious pressure on the Reeds.

NMURA, do you know if the new dance team, Kana Muramoto and Hiroichi Noguchi, will compete in any National events this season? They started skating together this March and I enjoyed their programs at BC Summerskate this summer. They have a long way to go technically, of course, but they have nice timing/chemistry for such a new team. And Kana has such spark and charisma! :) If they get better lifts and Hiroichi improves his strength, edges and twizzles, they could progress quite nicely.

I don't understand why no Miyabi Oba (Ohba).
Hongo and Oba are of about the same level, both high enough for Nationals.

Is Fumie Sugari skating? Doesn't she have to qualifiy? I wonder if she will try - I thought she was training in Canada or skated at some competition in the summer.

She apparently qualified for Eastern Sectionals as per NMURA's report.

Poor Fumie... I give her huge credit for still trying to stick with skating at a competitive level but her jumps have abandoned her.

I am thinking going to watch Novice A ladies tomorrow, hope all the girls do well, and hopefully there are not too many people there so that I can get in (not having a ticket with me now).

Miyu Honda (2nd year) 2A hang 1S 1A-1T 2Lz-2T 2F :disapp:

Iwano won as expected. Probably she had a few UR but the technical content is very ambitious for her age (born March 2004). I think three first year novice B skaters from Tokyo are worthy of attention.
