I know we still have a few weeks to go before this event gets underway but I thought it would be interesting to look at the entries going into Skate America and compare them with their rankings entering the competition. I think it's interesting to look at before there has been some shuffling of world standings and my assumption is it will affect the skating order in the short program yes?

For instance, before the challenger series, Mirai was ranked behind 6 of the other women competing which would have meant skating in the first group in the sp. But after the first challenger events she has moved past Joshi Helgesson and now should likely be skating in the second group. BUT is Samantha gets third or better at Finlandia then she would have more ranking points than either lady and likely she would skate in the second warm up group.

So what I wanted to do was just list all four disciplines here with a likely skating order in reverse along with their world ranking in parenthesis.

We still have two events in the Challenger Series that will happen before Skate America. Those are Finlandia and Skate Canada Classic and any skater who is slated to compete in one of those I have out a start next to their ranking IF they could POTENTIALLY move past someone else competing at SKAM. If they can't pass anyone ahead of them in rankings I've still noted the event but no star next to the name.

I've also written the event and the highest ranks skater they have potential to overtake. Note - Potential does not mean what I think is likely.

So there you have it!

It's still a shock to me that the US has not one, but TWO pairs teams ranked in the top 10. It sure would be great if they could get finishes like that at worlds. If we did have two teams place 5 and 8 at worlds we'd have three spots for pairs. Just imagine! It looks like pairs is the only event set in stone and ladies especially could have some very interesting shuffling.

I HOPE they still plan on having skaters skate in reverse order of their world ranking this year. Otherwise this was all for not lol!

Yes, the pairs standings are a shock- and the situation is partially the consequences of the Chinese fed's choice not to send its top 3 teams to Senior B's and partially of post-Olympics team retirements.

What is more shocking is that neither of the two US teams in the top 10 qualified for the Olympics

Just a note - the Reeds are out. They were replaced by Elizabeth Paradis and Francois Xavier Ouelette.

This seems to be a "cheat sheet" thread for handicapping skaters. I expect to see people read it and then update their Predictions Game pick.

Some extra help.
