Hong Kong Figure Skating and Short Track Speed Skating Championships 2015

Date:April 14 -15, 2015(Tuesday to Wednesday)

Hang on. How come Hong Kong are having their National Championships AFTER Four Continents and World Championships?!

Unless of course they were supposed to be held sometime in the last month, but were postponed due to the protests.

Whatever the case, may I wish all the best to all the competitors. I have quite a few friends that I went to school with whose families originated from HK, so I have a soft spot for the territory, and always want to see their athletes doing well.

And hence why I would have loved to see Michelle Kwan and Patrick Chan representing their ancestral homeland! Who knows, if they did, HK could have become a real force in figure skating...! ;)

HK usually holds their nationals in April (during off season, lol) - I think it's because they do short track at the same time. Probably has to do with cost of the event, organization, etc.

EDIT: actually, I'm looking at the announcement for last year's nationals and it says that the results are used to determine who gets to go to ISU events - so I'm under the impression that they do it during the off season so they can decide who will skate at any international event during the actual season.

Sorry -- before your post, I already had "reported" my OP to request that the mods delete this thread. I still hope that the mods eventually will do so.

I stupidly started the thread before realizing that this event belongs in the not-yet-existent forum for 2015-16, not 2014-15. :bang:

Please excuse my error.

As we have discussed it in another thread with dorispulaski, that's unclear if the championships held in april 2014 are 2014/2015 or 2015/2016 championships...
But as the ISU season runs from 1st july to 30th june, and international competitions are held til end of april, personnaly I consider these ones as 2014/2015. For example the Croatian championship, who usually is held in december, will be held this year at the end of march, but count for 2014/2015. And for small countries without any suspense for who can go to the ISU championships (usually nobody or only one skater), the championship doesn't change anything for that, but maybe can decide assignments for next season junior grand prix.

Oh, sorry, I was not aware of that discussion.
In any case, then this forum clearly is the wrong place for the April 2015 event (again, my apologies). Instead should belong to the future 2015-16 forum (or even 2016-17??).

(My thought that the 2015-16 forum would be the right place for the April 2015 HK event was that it would determine which skaters compete at 2016 Worlds.
Would you mind directing me to the thread that had your discussion? Not arguing with you -- I'm just a sponge who would like to read what Doris and you said there. :))

Doris, thanks for the link to your aforementioned discussion with Nirti. :)

And sorry for this misguided thread re the Apr 2015 event. :(
Page 1 of the announcement for it says that it is one of the main selection criteria for 2015-2016 ISU events.

So I hope that I am not about to make matters worse, but now I believe that the Apr 2014 HK event is the one that would belong in this 2014-15 forum.

Anyway, Doris, pls feel free to delete or edit any or all of my posts in this thread if anything can help straighten out the confusion that I have created.

If we look at the "ISU 2013/2014 national results", we can find all the championships held in april and may 2014... So the championships held in april 2015 will probably count with the ISU 2014/2015 national results...

From a fan, rather than from an institutional ISU point of view, I usually want the championships accessible both ways-when I'm writing something about the 2015-16 JGP next fall, I want to be able to see their most recent national championships, which is April 2015. When writing about 2015 4cc's or 2015 Euros, I want to see the April 2014 data. So I have set up.this dual storage setup. When we move to next season in July, or whenever we actually get next year's forum set up, I will copy over the Early Bird or Late Bird championships over into the next season regular Other Nationals forum.

Results from the SPs are up along with their protocols. The senior ladies are doing... very poorly compared to the junior ladies. Yi Christy Leung landed a clean 3F!!!

Ronald did clean 3F-3T and 3A but popped his 3Lz into a 2Lz*. He's in first with a 60. He seems to be going the safe route with no quad attempt - it is the end of the season after all, definitely a great season for him!

Thx! Wondering if Leslie Ip got his release from Skate Canada? Guess we'll find out in the fall when assignments come out.
