Apparently she pulled out of of Asian trophy due to an injury, so I could see that being the reason why

It seemed as though she had a slight one, especially after that layback in the short. She seemed much more reserved than usual here, and I wonder if she was focusing in on getting through the competition without injuring herself further...Whatever is going on though, that triple lutz-triple loop  not to mention the gorgeous triple lutz-triple toe in the second half!

Her program is pretty ambitious so once she can nail the jumps and add some more personality (more than she showed in Austria), the scores should improve a lot!

There are some discussion of Wakaba's nickname Wakababy on the other competition thread LOL.
I thought I had an impression that Wakaka's ins account is wakaba_baby and it was private before. Then I did some digging, it seems like the current wakaba_baby ins account is not Wakaba's . but here is some other skater's ins @ wakaba used the wakaba_baby account name
such as Miki's
https://instagram.com/p/wfz3WjF_Od/
and also HongKong skater Maisy also @ wakaba_baby
https://instagram.com/p/vxHboopS48/?taken-by=maisyma1999

so that account should be Wakaba's, according to those skaters.

Don't know what happened?

She probably changed her username if that's the case :)

from TJ thread. goooo! Wakababy!:cheer:
Wakaba skated at Tokyo Regionals today and scored 60.16 although she didn't make any obvious mistakes. Probably an "e" on the flip again?
I don't know when the protocols come out but someone posted the scores on twitter.
It's good to see Wakaba getting competition at home too - .

I'm pretty sure her user name was wakaba_baby before but I think she changed it to i_am_wakaba. She changes her twitter name a lot too.

Actually, Wakaba's real life nickname seems to be "Baccho" according to this article. I've seen her skater friends refer to her as "Wakabaccho" on their SNS though - Yuka, Marin

It seems to me that “ba” is from waka”ba” and “cho” is added after that? Anyway, very funny!

Wakaba scored 115.46 for her FS today. She popped the first combination with 3Lz-1Lo but nailed the rest (except the edge on the flip probably).

I don't think Baccho has any meaning. It's just something they added to the end of her name.
Her name means "young leaf" although the character of "young" is replaced by "new" in her case because she was born a day after the new year. I think it's a beautiful name :)

ETA:
According to Minoru Sano, the head coach of Meiji Jingu Ice Rink where Wakaba trains at, Wakaba landed her first 3A about 3 weeks ago
He mentioned it while commentating for JGP Austria which is on BS TV Asahi right now.

Wakababy cute power:cheer::cheer2::rock:
Does "ccho" has similar meaning like "chan" which you added behind young girl's name?

I can't think of any other names that would have "ccho" on the end but it was the first time for me to see someone being called "Baccho" too. I guess it's just like adding "n" to some other names like Yukari is called "Yukarin" and Satoko is called "Satton". I've seen Akiko being called "Akkochee" by Miki and Miki is sometimes referred to as "Mikitee" (don't know if it's her real life nickname). Most of them are unexplainable, but just sound cute.

Protocols from Tokyo Regionals are out.

Thanks mikaboo for protocols:)

As predicted, she got ! of frip and UR at SP.
She got ! of flip in combo at FS as well...
Hopefully she can correct the flip error (But it is !, so it won't take so much time.).

Wakaba can be first if she can go out there and show us what we know she can do (if it happens.). lol
anyway, she was underscored for her FS at her first Grand Prix assignment.

Hoping Wakaba will show us what she can do, in Croatia this week - I really want to see her at the GP final again.

But she must win this week, to reach the final...
