This is the first ever UAE skating championships. However, it is going to be held in conjunction with an ISU senior, junior, and novice competition.

Only ladies and men's events are planned. *error fixed*

Nothing extraordinary is being done, at least from the announcement to attract skaters from other countries; it appears to be run like any other competition.

Hi, FYI... The FBMA Trophy is for both male and female participants. It is the first ISU Competition organized by the UAE Ice Sport Federation and it's also the UAE National Championships. There are 10 participating countries registered.

Apparently there's an Irish girl in it and a pile of Australians ( for whatever reason).

The Irish federation has some info and pictures on their facebook:

Clara Peters was third in Senior Ladies.

Ciara Hoey won Junior Ladies.

This is all there is about scores:

After the short programmes at the FBMA Trophy, Ciara Hoey is in the lead in the Junior Ladies event on 24.93 while Clara Peters is in third in the Senior Ladies on 27.97. Both will compete in the free skating tomorrow

So if I'm right, final results should be :

Senior Ladies
1. Anastasia KONONENKO 110,57
2. Isabella SCHUSTER-VELISSARIOU 109,44
3. Clara PETERS 97,97
4. Zahra LARI 72,47

Junior Ladies
1. Ciara HOEY 64,61
2. Amira ABDUL MOATI WD

Schuster not far from reaching the European's TES (she already reached the short program TES). The same for Peters but only on the free program.

Zahra is still quite far away from reaching the 4 CC's TES.

She is a skater that wears a hijab and I can't recall ever seeing a lady with hijab competing in any major FS event.

2018 Olympics, really?!? She plans to learn to do a consistent 2A and all the triple jumps during the next 3 years? (She's already 20...)

Didn't realise there was an international comeptition attached to the local National Championships.

WELL DONE CLARA AND CIARA!!!!  :party2: :points:

It is so good to see TWO Irish skaters getting on the podium in their respective competitions!!! And to see that one of them won! ;)

Although, it is a shame that Ciara ended up as the only skater competing in the Junior Ladies FS, as it would have been nice to say that she won conclusively. Does anybody know why Amira ABDUL MOATI withdrew after the SP?

Speaking of Amira, her story is very interesting. Her Mum is Russian, her Dad is Egyptian, and they live in Dubai. According to this story, she wants to represent Egypt, but they do not have an ISU affiliated Federation. So, until that happens, she is representing Russia.

For her sake, I hope that happens soon. Because we all know how competitive it is to get onto the Russian team! (Plus, it would be nice to see an African country represented on the international stage!)

Quite frankly, I don't think the hijab makes her any less eligible to compete in major competitions, or makes her a bad skater. I think it'd be really cool to see her in a competition with it! I'm sure she could do awesome things with her costumes.
