Not surprised at all by his win, he won the fan vote. What a well-deserved award!

Other than a break from the east coast weather, he will get more than a week of training time with Raf ahead of GPF!

Press release for the Victoria show includes Nathan so it sounds like he's doing the last few Canada shows.

ETA:
The Canadian site has him listed for Victoria and Vancouver

Looks like they're doing a combined North America tour, rather than two separate US and Canadian ones maybe, given the way they're showing both in one list. Well, so far mainly a Canadian tour with a couple US dates. Interesting.

The US tour is in a tough position with Nathan only able to do a few shows, Alysa too young to tour, and Adam retired. Probably makes sense to consolidate the tours for now. Maybe during the Olympic season there will be a separate US tour again.

TeamUSA article about GPF, Nathan briefly mentioned
https://www.teamusa.org/News/2019/N...r-Figure-Skatings-Grand-Prix-Final-Next-Month

Nathan Chen is not only the defending champion but the two-time reigning Final winner, dating back to 2017. After gold medal efforts at Skate America and the grand prix stop in France, the Yale sophomore will go head-to-head with two-time Olympic champion Yuzuru Hanyu for the first time since worlds earlier this year, when Chen beat (an admittedly injured) Hanyu in Japan.

“Yuzuru has looked like he’s on a mission this season,” said Wagner, who has been doing skating commentary on the Olympic Channel. “I’m curious to see how that goes against Nathan, who I feel like has been a bit more present on the ice. He looks like a completely different athlete: His performing abilities… it’s really exciting to see because he’s become a much more well-rounded skater. Going head-to-head, I can’t quite call it.”

Wagner doesn’t place too much stock in the scores from Chen and Hanyu’s respective grand prix stops: Hanyu has registered a 322 and 305 in his two wins, while Chen has scored a 299 and 297. It’s their first regular season meeting since Rostelecom Cup in 2017.

The Chen-Hanyu showdown is far and away the headline of the men’s event.

50/50 chance honestly. I could see it go either way. Yuzu seems like he's on a mission to win though, but I wouldn't count Nathan out. He's on a pretty decently long break right now and should be in pretty good shape. I think the long break he's had could work in his favor.

Not sure about layouts. But just guessing

4lz3T
4F
4T1eu3F
3A
4S
4T (maybe?)
3A2T

going by SA that would be his layout, but not doing the 4F and instead back to the 3lz3T (or 2T) kinda threw me off at IDF. But I think he'll add it back. I'd guess he'll do a 4lz+3t, 4F in the SP if his jumps are working out.

I hope he can leave more room for tech content upgrade for Nationals and worlds. Just focus on GOE and performance for now.

I think that Nathan’s chances at GPF are actually pretty good.

Though he didn’t want to blame the ice condition for his performance at IDF, his jumps were looking good at practice there. He’s currently on break and able to train with Raf right now.

The longer rest between events could work to his advantage in terms of physical condition and also possible layout changes.
