    Daniel Samohin

Israeli figure skater Daniel Samohin was born on Mar 12, 1998 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He is the 2018-19 Israeli men's champion and the 2016 World Junior Champion.

The teen made his debut on the senior Grand Prix in the 2015-16season at the Cup of China. He was born in Tel Aviv, Israel to Russian parents, but lives and trains in Lake Arrowhead, CA. Daniel used to skate for the US until switching to Israel in the 2013-14 season. He is coached by his dad Igor, and his mother Irina is listed as his choreographer. He also has an older brother, Stanislav, who used to skate for Russia. Daniel is the two-time Israeli men's national champion.

Samohin captured the gold medal at the 2016 Junior Worlds Championships, the first ever win at an ISU Championships for an Israeli skater.

Daniel caught my eye on the JGP last season, and I was very impressed with him at the Euros. Consistency is an issue, but I think he is a very good performer, with interesting programs and a lot of potential. He seems to be friendly with everyone he meets as well. Good luck in seniors, Daniel!

The family has interested me since I saw Daniel at US Nationals win fourth in novices in 2013.

He did so well at Europeans this season! Congratulations to Daniel for getting a GP next season!

You might want to add his competititive info from
    http://tracings.net/samo-dani.html and his ISU bio

Daniel won the Philadephia Summer International competition today with a score of 188.77.

Video of his SP (same Scorpions program from last season). The FS hasn't been uploaded yet. Kind of a rough skate, but I imagine his wasn't the only one.

I'm all for ambition, but I think it might behoove the guys to establish a little consistency first. Not just Daniel, but Moris K., Kovtun...who else is going for 3?

Daniel is on the entry list for the Colorado Springs JGP. Since he obviously can't do JGP and senior GP, I wonder which one is the mistake? If he is really planning 2 quads in his SP, then it sounds like he had every intent to go senior...and I hope that is the case.

We saw Daniel (& Alexei) @ the Philadelphia International Summer Competition (it's so much easier to say "Liberty") last month. Very impressive!

Daniel's Sherlock Holmes FS from Glacier Falls starts a little after 1:09 here:

    http://web.icenetwork.com/video/topi...024/v338883783

Shame about the popped jumps, but for a new program, it's looking pretty good. Compared to some of the much more hyped skaters I saw there, I think Daniel's performance skills blows them away.

I saw this in person and was very impressed. I hadn't even really heard of Daniel before and he was a very confident performer - - but needs to relax more because his excitement threw off his quads. He's one of those skaters who you want to tell to take a chill pill so he doesn't hurt himself trying so hard to land them, especially early in the season.

If he really is skating in the jgp as I've seen listed elsewhere here (even though he already has senior gp?), he should do nicely for himself if he can skate Clean.
