liza's jumps were the best thing about the test skates.

She seemed a bit more confident going into the 3a. The entry seemed a little shorter. I could be wrong (didn’t time it) but either way it’s a gorgeous jump for her.

Of course all Liza's jumps are beautiful, but her Lutz is something else. I can watch it over and over and never getting tired of it.:love:

She finally has the gold standard for a ladies SP. 3A, 3Lz, and 3F. I wonder why she dropped her Lutz Toe for a Flip Toe.

Congratulations to Liza for the silver medal! :agree:

I'm really happy she's kept the green dress for the SP, although I wonder what costume she'll end up with for her FS.

Looking forward to seeing her this season! :cheer:

Jackie Wong suggested that it might be because her Flip isn't as high as her Lutz, it's easier to tack the 3T on to it.

Yes. You have to keep the first jump rather long and low to be able to tack on a 3T. And her Lutz is just too high

That explains why her performance looked so tentative. But even more kudos to her for landing two 3As under those conditions!

Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva: “I plan to learn the quadruple jump this season”

One of the most popular figure skaters in Russia talks about food poisoning at a tournament in Bergamo, trips on minibuses and a strip room.

The Lombardia Trophy tournament last week was supposed to be the beginning of the victorious march of Yelizaveta Tuktamysheva, but the free program performance was not as bright as expected. At the Open Test Skates in Luzhniki, the 2015 World Champion, delighted the audience and specialists, with her technical elements and courage. But in Bergamo, she lost to 15-year-old Anna Shcherbakova. Our conversation began with the question: what went wrong in Italy?

“After the tournament, there was no joy and satisfaction, as I took second place” Tuktamysheva said. "I was a little unwell before the free program and it wasn't very comfortable to perform, I felt weak. Unfortunately, this was noticeable. After reviewing my routine later, I realised that it wasn't as incendiary as in Moscow. But I am pleased I managed, although my emotions were not the most vivid.

Q: At the Open Test Skates - with a filled arena and excitement, and at the competitions in Bergamo - a modest skating rink, silence and the complete absence of spectators. Because of this, there was no dissonance?
A: I can’t say it somehow influenced me. Although the atmosphere in Luzhniki was cooler, I wanted to skate at maximum. In Italy, although there were few spectators, everyone went out to perform as usual.

Q: There is a video on the Internet where your short program from the Test Skates is superimposed with its original soundtrack “Drumming Song” performed by Florence And The Machine. And the program looks very different. Is there an option to return to this?
A: There were such thoughts. And maybe we’ll try to skate the program for “Drumming Song” at the Sankt Peterburg Cup stage, after which we will evaluate. I'd like to evaluate two options. But before the stages of the Grand Prix, I want to be sure the program looks good. Plus I’ll start at Finlandia Trophy.

Q: Between the tournament in Espoo and your American stage of the Grand Prix, there is less than a week ...
A: We usually arrive the day before the competition, and I am comfortable in this mode. Otherwise you need to arrive more than a week before the performance, because the most difficult days in terms of acclimatisation are from the fifth to the seventh, so we have time.

Marchisio and Noboa turned out to be nice guys

Q: After skating your free program in Bergamo, many didn't like that you did not have your costume ready ... Did this somehow affect the result?
A: I don't think it mattered at that start. Plus, I somehow still had [a costume] - I skated in a special shirt. Last year, I also showed a short program without a proper costume, and this did not affect me in any way. If more or less suitable for the program, this option is valid.

Q: Polina Shyelepen came to visit SE, and noted that she most of all expects quad jumps from you and Yevgeniya Medvyedeva. Is this for real in your case?
A: I think it's is for real. Now I'm trying to do the quad Toeloop in the harness, already without any effort from the person who holds me. I practically fully rotate the jump and have a good exit. Rather, you need to psychologically tune in to the long wrap of the new jump, if I feel this, then it seems to me that everything will work out. I plan to learn it this season.

Q: Last year, your show number with stripping became a hit. Is there something special to expect from you this year?
A: We’ll try, but so far I have not decided on the music. Plus this is a very responsible season - I want to do my best in competitive performances. Nicest praise for the show number? I was flattered when in “Evening Urgant” they paid attention and inserted a part of the number into the program.

Q: Even at Zenit they wrote "Take it to the boarding!"
A: That was also very cool.

Q: After that, you as the anchor even did an interview with Claudio Marchisio, who was then playing for the Sankt Peterburg club ...
A: I was still talking with Christian Noboa. They both turned out to be nice guys, they didn’t boast about themselves, they talked calmly and frankly with me. Claudio showed himself more as a discreet intellectual who likes to go to museums. But Noboa is rather funny and funny.

Q: Did you manage to get to know the Russian Zenit guys better?
A: We plan to record something, but I don’t know when this will be.

Q: By the way, the Champions League begins, will you watch?
A: When there is time and my schedule is not very busy - yes. But if the game is at night or late in the evening, then I will choose a dream, because for me, my sport comes first.

I use the minibus, but maybe soon I will buy a car

Q: At the end of 2017, you said that you went to training on a minibus, did something change during this time?
A: Not yet, I still use the minibus, Metro or taxi. But maybe soon I'll buy a car. It's not that they find out or pester, now the bad weather season is beginning and I want to expose myself to the elements as little as possible so as not to get sick.

Q: Once you named your three main dishes: tea, coffee and scrambled eggs. And in the winter of this year, a documentary already showed how you famously cook chicken with spinach. At what point did you start to thoroughly learn to cook?
A: When I realised what needs to be cooked for my young man, I began to learn I need to be able to do this in my household. If I were alone, I would somehow manage. What I like? I just love to eat (laughs). I love tuna salad, plus I found a restaurant in Sankt Peterburg with amazing sushi. Apparently, after returning from Japan, I liked the local cuisine even more.

Q: In your social media you have photos of this ordinary girl who sometimes sits in a cafe with friends over a cup of coffee. It doesn’t happen that one of them offers: “Lisa, come on with your tiramisu”?
A: In my environment are mostly skaters, so this rarely happens. But everywhere you need to maintain balance. If weekend has arrived and your health and weight are OK, then why can't you afford something? Diet is not a constant restriction but a balanced menu. And if you want something, you need to allow yourself this, otherwise there will be a bad mood, condition, and who needs that? There is only one life, therefore, of course, you don’t need to eat kilograms of tiramisu, but also do not limit yourself to such a state, to be completely bad.

Q: Are they often weighed at the rink?
A: Yes, but I am a professional athlete, and I know how much I should weigh, so I control everything myself. The trainers trust me 100 percent and so far everything is fine. But the younger girls are weighed regularly.

Q: Last autumn, you didn’t have a chance to comment on the women's performances at the Moscow Grand Prix stage; instead, you tightly controlled your extremely unsuccessful skating runs at the 2017 Universiade. But then it was scary even for your career, are you really this self-ironic?
A: When there are competitions that you inexplicably fail, what else remains? It isn't a tragedy when you do not get those few points required for third or first place, second and fourth places - the most insulting. And then I screwed up my full program, accepted ithis, went to the Russian Cup Final and performed well there.

Sick due to a draft, not due to undressing

Q: In the summer you were at a show in Japan and carried mountains of gifts from there. Did the fans throw you something special?
A: There were a lots of things, somehow they even threw a kimono, it turned out to be very beautiful, and I even performed in the show in it.

Q: Give useful gifts! Clothing, tracksuits ...
A: Yes, in Japan, by the way, they throw clothes: T-shirts, blouses, pants, in the latter I even walk around the house, they are very funny, but comfortable. The coolest moments in Japan? Our trip to bowling and karaoke was a lot of fun.

Q: Why did you happen to catch that fatal cold, which turned into pneumonia before the Championship of Russia? Your detractors even blamed everything on your undressing in a show number ...
A: This is complete nonsense, if that was the reason, I would get sick right after the first start, and not after the fifth. People perform in mesh, open costumes and nobody accuses them of anything.
It’s just that there was a draft in the mixed zone in the arena where the Grand Prix Final was held, I think it affected me. Since the beginning of the season I was in good shape and most likely my immune system could not stand it.

Q: The decisions on the third participant in the World Championships was awaited with great impatience. How did you find out about it, someone called you personally?
A: No, I read it on the Internet. Instagram post about a little girl? It's a shame. And the combination of triple and double Axel was not made out of anger. We have trained this cascade before.

Q: This summer you were in Cyprus, judging by your lively photographs. Do you like passive rest or active?
A: Andrey and I love outdoor activities, although he likes to sleep more. We rented a scooter, traveled all over the island far and wide, for all this time we lay on the beach at the hotel only for a day or two. And then we went to play tennis and walked around. I am always in favour of knowing the world.

Cyprus is known for its caves and the colour of its water.

Q: Which of these extremes are you interested in: bungee jumping, roller skates, a frightening ride?
A: In the park on Krestovskiy Island I took a ride on all the attractions, I would love to do bungee jumping, but we never came across it on the island. In season, we always fear for our health.

Q: Then a parachute jump is just for you?
A: Yes, I would like to jump. I just want to do this abroad, where there is a beautiful view around, and I would also like to fly on a hang glider.

Q: Well, on the sunny topic of relaxation, what do you wish yourself in the new season?
A: I would like a beautiful fight between myself and the other girls. To ride stably, with pleasure and satisfaction. When you feel ecstasy and delight in your skating - it is a completely different pitch and energy.

This was great! I'm afraid of getting my hopes up, but I do hope she keeps Drumming Song; this could really become a signature piece for her.

The jumps looked effortless.
