Russia, USA and Japan have 2 ladies each in the final flight, not really surprising given it mirrors what's going on the Senior Ladies internationally.

What a mixed bag of music for the FS, many warhorses (two R&J), more Gatsby and yet another Je Suis Malade? Nice to see Pink and David Johansen (ex-New York Doll) in there, too!

I HATE, HATE, HATE Je Suis Malade!! Who is skating to that dreck?

Kim Cheremsky.

  • I think Le is Vietnamese (maybe I'm wrong..). Perhaps Mrs. P or anyone else of Vietnamese descent could clarify? :) I browsed her skates on yt & most announcers pronounce it like 'lee' or even 'lay'. Can't find a vid of her introducing herself.

Yes, Le is a Vietnamese name. I pronounce it "lay." (So per earlier question the l sound is like that in "length") That said, someone noted in the sp thread she is of Chinese descent? Maybe she is both. Haven't really found any info.

  • After seeing her face and the way her last name written, I think she may have Vietnamese root too (but maybe I'm wrong, because IIRC, China also has that last name). And if Le is a Vietnamese name, it's pronounced like [les] in French.

Vivian Le seems very French to me, No wonder CaroLizaFan on the other thread mistook her as French for quite some time:biggrin: I just pronounce it like Vivien Leigh.

Thanks to all for the discussion of the pronunciation of Vivian's last name.
LOL, last night, I had started wondering about it too.
I independently had "decided" ;) that "lay" prob. is correct. My money always is on Mrs. P , so happy to see her post.

... I just pronounce it like Vivien Leigh.

Yesterday @SarahAndDrew joked on Twitter that V. Le needs a Gone With The Wind program .

I wouldn't take my theory of her being Chinese as being any way reliable! That theory of her having Chinese ancestry was largely based on how the commentator pronounced her surname!

Although, I did think it was strange that Vivian's surname was spelt "Le", as the Chinese name I was thinking of is normally transliterated as "Li" or "Lee".

But, if she is Vietnamese, that would explain everything.

Vivian Le seems very French to me, No wonder CaroLizaFan on the other thread mistook her as French for quite some time:biggrin: I just pronounce it like Vivien Leigh.

Halelujah! :cheer: At least I was not the only one that thought the name looked French!!! I can be a bit less embarassed now (but only a bit!)

OK, so when you look at it, "Vivian Le" does not resemble what you think of as a typical French name.

But, her first name with the spelling "Vivienne" is a typical French girl's name.

And "Le" is the masculine form of the French word for "the".

Oh, and in case you were wondering, I was pronouncing it the way "le" is pronounced in French", i.e. "luh" (that's my best guess at how it would be spelt phoenetically! ).

So, that is what I was basing that thoughts on.

Anyway, competition has started. Beautiful dress from the Filipina skater who is kicking things off.
