Nic missed the bronze medal by less than 3.5 points, so that's rather unfortunate :bang: , but the important thing is that his Depeche Mode FS is cleaner this time around than at the Championnats québécois d'été: [Dead link]

he still doesn't have a 3 jump combo... ugh.. that's the medal right there

I'm also concerned that he has the lowest base value among the top senior-level Canadian men (and that includes Bennet Toman, whom I've said in another thread could spoil someone else's chance to make the National Team). With jump content that is slightly less demanding, Nic's chances of delivering a clean program should be higher, but he's basically just as inconsistent as the rest of the Canucks. At least his free skate has improved at Finlandia, and his PCS is second only to Keegan Messing, but Nic is still fairly behind in terms of TES. I think it speaks volumes that Roman Sadovsky scored only 1 point less in the SP at ACI than Nic did at Finlandia despite the fact that the former made three mistakes with a PCS disadvantage of more than 2 points while the latter only had one error.

I do see that Nic goes for a 3Lo combo in both programs, so that suggests to me that sometime in the future, he may include a 4Lo, which he has only attempted once in competition (2017 Nationals LP). While he's still the only Canadian skater to even attempt a quad loop in competition (and it was fully rotated, albeit two-footed), it's my hope that he will one day solidify his status as the first Canadian to land it cleanly. But until we actually see him go for that jump again, or at the very least perform flawlessly in both segments, I can't help but be a little worried that him narrowly missing out on the Finlandia Trophy podium is part of a negative pattern that will repeat itself throughout the season. He also didn't score high enough at the Championnats québécois d'été to earn the TBA spot for SCI.

When is Nicolas next start? Maybe he will come to a tournament before the Grand Prix?

His next competition is Internationaux de France, which is 1.5 months from now. Skate Canada usually determines assignments in advance (go the "International" tab of this page: https://skatecanada.ca/event-schedule/), so it's doubtful that he'll be sent to another event in the fall.

Well, at least he has time to do adjustments and train some more :) I'm kind of used to my faves having bad competitions regulary.... All the more happiness when they skate clean! :hap10:

On the shallow note, Nic looked really good :luv17:

I wouldn't call Finlandia a bad competition for him (I mean, let's face it, if he does one mistake in the SP and two in the LP, that's above average :slink: ), just a little disappointing that he wasn't able to grab a bronze medal that was within reach.

On the rare occasion that an inconsistent skater does deliver a flawless performance, I agree with you that it's very special. :)

He does look extra hunky in that black costume. :cool14: And is it just me, or is his skating kind of sexy in the DM program? I understand that there's nothing overt, but there's nevertheless something about the way he moves across the ice that seems more attractive than usual.

I spot 3 mistakes: that 2T after 3Lo I think was supposed to be 3T.... Anyway, I agree it could be worse :p And yeah, as long as he keeps getting better, I'm alright with it :)

He's also very appealing when he rollerblades ( https://www.instagram.com/p/Boumd1Hn1pC/ ), fixing a flat tire ( https://www.instagram.com/p/BnuNFNQl6jF/ ), or being attacked by a butterfly ( https://www.instagram.com/p/BlB90d5l7FJ/ )---or maybe the butterfly was naturally drawn to his hotness.

I've just noticed that Nic's height is listed as 186 cm, 1 cm more than last year: http://www.isuresults.com/bios/isufs00054342.htm

I thought he had already stopped growing. Considering how tall and large he is, could this be (at least partially) the reason why he only includes one 4T in each program? (Not to mention his success rate with that jump hasn't been good this season.) Perhaps his build is making it really difficult for him to land clean quads in competition?

ETA: It has been changed back to 185 cm.

Nic was included in an Internationaux de France Canadian Skaters fluff:

It feels like forever since we've seen or heard anything about him. For someone who's an extrovert, he can be awfully quiet (e.g. little to no social media activity).

I apologize for not being diligent in updating his Fan Fest recently, but I have the best (and worst) excuse ever; if you haven't already heard about my life-threatening incident, you can read about it here: https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/s...gure-skating&p=2266347&viewfull=1#post2266347

The original YouTube links are now dead, so I've uploaded my copies.

----

Numerous fs-related YT channels have disappeared, so I can no longer find any vids of his IdF SP, so all I have is a No Commentary 720p version that's missing his kiss & cry:

And of course there's no LP because he withdrew due to a back injury.

These are Nic's last three Instagram posts that I haven't shared yet:

"I don't stop when it's friday. I only stop when I'm done! #saturdayworkout" (there are 2 video clips in this set): https://www.instagram.com/p/Bo4Pn0MnHdb/

Nic finished 11th at his 4CC debut, which I suppose isn't bad, but he obviously could've done better.

For those you who didn't check the Canadian Figure Skating thread, I'm finally active again on this forum after going "missing" for several months. To make a long story short, I did finally get the operation that I needed for my life-threatening condition, so I'm no longer in danger of dying, but my recovery isn't going as well as hoped, so if my current symptoms don't improve after a certain amount of time, I may have to undergo another medical procedure.

Nic's sole performance during the National Summer Series is his SP from Minto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GnUb-kshHhY He withdrew from the LP.

I was hoping to see his new short program in person at the Quebec Summer Championships, but after skating for only about a minute during the warm-up, he appears to have injured himself (or exacerbated a pre-existing one) while practicing an Axel, and he withdrew from the competition. :( Unlike the previous two years, I didn't get the chance to talk to him, so there's nothing for me to report.
