Sean got loud cheers from the crowd as he took his bows at the Autumn Classic medal ceremony.

He was seen wiping his eyes on the podium ... I think he had gotten teary with emotion. [And he has made me cry with happiness for him this week.]

Those are a couple of the Sean highlights from the @michlmint fancam Instagram video snippets of the medal ceremony that I just posted in the ACI videos thread:

tulosai, thanks for starting this thread for Sean.

Congratulations on the bronze medal today
This was my first time to actually watch him skate. I should pay more attention to US Nationals instead of just watching the top guys. I liked both the American men competing here. The depth is incredible!

I like his spirit and how happy he was to be at SC Classic. To get the bronze medal for his first International competition was just the cherry on top. I wish him well in his career!

I Sean! The first time we got to see him was @ the Liberty Summer Competition (Ice Works in Aston, PA) 7/2010, and were immediately taken by his sense of humor, entertaining persona, and musicality. We've been cheering for him ever since! One of my favorite memories of last season's US Nationals was seeing Sean skate so well and making the US broadcast for the free skate!

Thank you for starting this thread about Sean, and many congrats to him for his bronze medal in his first international event!

A red head on a podium Congrats Sean on getting a 3rd place I'm really happy for him, especially since his programs weren't without mistakes, so if he improves things (like 3A) it will be even better! Wish him best luck

Congratulations to Sean! It was great to see him so happy. And what a good ending too--to medal at your international debut and share the podium with Nam and Yuzuru. He must be completely over the moon, and I can't blame him. I did a couple of calculations and his score would have placed him 18th at World's... so I really hope the fed gives him more opportunities, because he's obviously earned them! Go Sean!

ETA: Besides, he's a redhead, and I've got to support my fellow redheads!

Some bits and pieces re our beloved Sean :

    (1) He does have an ISU bio , which I hope will be updated promptly:

And Sean's name is due to be added to the ISU World Standings and Season's World Ranking lists:

[ISU bios do include non-Challenger internationals (although they don't count for SBs). And skaters at non-Challenger internationals do earn ISU points for WS and SWR (although not as many points as for Challenger comps).]

    (2) More photos from the Autumn Classic:

Candid shot of his dad taking a good look at the medal around Sean's neck:

Sean's joyful spread eagle in his FS:

Cute smiles from Sean, Nam, Yuzuru:
    Handsome smiles from the three:

    (3) Photos of recent artifacts from his fans:

Customized blue ribbon in honor of Sean:

Autographs from Sean, rabbit ears and all:

How cool was it that Jeff Buttle presented the medals?

Anyway, I found this last night - seems pretty recent from US Figure Skating's channel.

I didn't know Sean was Jewish, another NJB (nice Jewish boy) skater (along with Jason, Max and Daniel S.) to follow (yes, I'm Jewish).

Thx for the posting the USFS vid, apgold. I meant to include it in my post above, but forgot.

As I mentioned in another thread, my favorite part of the vid is Sean saying his own name in Japanese as he takes a brief detour into a couple of sentences of fluent Japanese.

And I previously mentioned my disappointment that USFS messed up the spelling of his name on the graphic within the video as well as on the YT page.

But I do appreciate that USFS showcased Sean in this one-minute video. Thx again for posting the link.

USFS published both Sean's video and Alex Johnson's within the last few days to coincide with the Autumn Classic.
My hunch is that the videos were recorded at ISP camp in June, and purposely held for an opportune occasion.

[Re Buttle presenting the medals: I believe the venue was Jeff's home rink? Agree that it was another cool thing for Sean to receive his medal from a World Champion.]

So great to see him win a medal! I love it when the 'underdogs' come good and do well. That is often when sport is most magical! He really did so well. Well done, Sean!

Really happy for Sean for getting a medal at his first senior international for the USA!

Does he have a bye to Nationals or was he required to go through Sectionals/Regionals?

I don't think he has a bye to Nationals but he might have one to Sectionals due to the Skate Canada Autumn Classic?

Yes, Sean is Jewish (an "MOT" - member of the "tribe"). He wears his Star of David proudly @ most of the competitions we have attended. I believe his mom is the daughter of Holocaust survivors. I love that Sean & his dad organized a benefit show for the Japanese people a few years ago, following the devastating tsunami that occurred the year that Japan was supposed to host Worlds.

    Follow-ups re the ISU site:

Sean now is tied for #50 on the ISU Season's World Ranking list .

And tied for #133 in the ISU World Standings.

Sean's ISU bio has been updated to show his 3rd place at the Autumn Classic. (And thx to Doris for adding the link to the OP.)

More content from the Autumn Classic:

Touching excerpt from Bev Smith's Oct 16 article (in which Hanyu is the emphasis):

Sean Rabbitt, a 25-year-old competing at his first international competition, took the bronze medal and was in tears at the thought of his mother, Helene, in a wheelchair, making the trip to see him. In his first practice, he was in the same group as Hanyu.

I hadn't known about his mother.

Photo of Sean, Marissa, and Mervin (from Sean's Snapchat) was in CBC's article re social media and the Autumn Classic:

The original image as posted on Marissa's Instagram:

The same footage plus other shots of Sean are in Karina Manta's long behind-the-scenes video of Team USA fun:

The full Senior Men's medal ceremony now is available in the Autumn Classics videos thread.
All of it is very enjoyable, including some cute moments of Sean making sure to accommodate the requests of the photog(s).

Not sure, but I think most (if not all???) Senior Men get byes to Sectionals anyway b/c of the low number of entries at Regionals???

I see now that Pacific Coast Sectionals are indeed Sean's next comp, according to the schedule/results page on his own website (which has been updated with his bronze from the Autumn Classic).
