It just occurred to me that it might be worth noting in this thread about Papa Mishin's upcoming 75th birthday, and the accompanying celebratory show that is to be held.

Copying from adelia's post in Petrov's fan fest thread:

    http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sho...=1#post1369027

    "Alexei Mishin - 75!

Honored coach of Russia on figure skating, professor Alexei Mishin trained three Olympic champions - Alexei Urmanov, Alexei Yagudin, Evgeni Plushenko, current World champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

At the beginning of sports career Alexei Mishin in pairs with Tamara Moskvina won the championship of the USSR in 1969, was a medalist of the European Championships and the world. In 1970, the master of sports of international class Alexey Mishin moved to coaching. Over the years he taught several generations of athletes.

Today Alexei continues to work and train young skaters, worthy of representing St. Petersburg at national and international competitions.

March 8, 2016 in SC "Jubilee" - the legendary Palace of Sports, where trained and continue to work outstanding figure skating champions and great coaches will be held demonstrations in honor of the 75th anniversary of Alexei Mishin.

On the ice will come out his famous students - two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko, World and European champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva, Europe-2016 Championship participant Alexander Petrov and others. The leading exhibition performances will be World and European champion, two-time medalist of the Winter Olympic Games Irina Slutskaya."

It was adorbs how he said that in soviet times he couldnt go out of the country but now everyone's gone & he's still here & no matter how many invitations he got from abroad he never considered leaving

The tickets are cheap at least compared to some concerts/star ice shows gonna buy tomorrow!

Cool that you'll be going, sugarpova! You know what that means, though, don't you? We'll expect you to tell us all about it! Oh, and have fun too, of course - but mostly, tell us all about it.

I wonder if there will be any other interesting skaters who haven't been announced...at his 70th jubilee, there was Konstantin, Johnny Weir, Stephane Lambiel, etc. The full show is on Vimeo if anyone is interested (there's a loooot of talking interspersed with the skating, though):

If I right remember Plushy was the organizer in that time ...

    edit: I was right

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJgCWyPrr30 Gift from Evgeni Plushenko to Alexei Mishin

and in 2011 Vancouver was a year before so Lambiel was grateful to Mishin because he improved Lambiel's jump.

Thank you! Very interesting to read this. A coach who could not even travel with his skaters to championships in the past Soviet times.

well I ended up buying the most expensive tickets

    great interview!
I like his approach of 'difficulties make progress' If a person is talented he will make it possible to improve & do your thing in the most difficult of times. Yeh its probably not the fav mentality nowdays when it more like 'participation can be a reward in it self' & 'give everyone a medal'
