Congrats to Vivian for wining Junior ladies sectionals, to Emily for second place and Paige for third place

I just got home from attending Mids Friday and Saturday. Here are a few random thoughts.

Jr. Men winner Aleksei Krasnozhon is ready to compete with the big boys. Chase Belmontes SP was good. During the FS I thought Chase looked totally scared out of his mind! His program seemed very odd and involved flinging his arms around and I'm not sure if Philip Mills really choreographed his FS.

Senior Pairs was very strange. Brianna de la Mora and her new partner Maxim K. haven't been together very long (maybe 6 months?) and they are doing 2twist, had problems on SBS jumps in the SP. In the FS it really appeared that Brianna twice forgot the choreography. Both times they did what some skaters do in practices - they skated through elements. When the second skate-through happened they went to their coach and had a little talk. I could see him gesturing and then motioning for them to get back out there and finish. They did finish and the coach hugged after they got off the ice and she looked sad. I think they took a big hit in the score because of the long delay.

Also in Senior Pairs was Caitlin Field/Ernie Utah Stevens. I remember reading that Caitlin had been injured and they had lost a lot of practice time. When they were warming up they had a lift that failed and I think she fell on a throw. In competition they also had a lift that failed, did 2twist and I think they had problems with the SBS double jumps. I'm glad they elected to compete here and didn't actually need to qualify for Nationals.

Senior Men was my favorite part of Mids. Loved Alexander Johnson's SP. Loved the music and choreography and he did well with the jumps. Vincent Zhou's FS was impressive and he is going to be serious competition at Nationals. Vincent used his Jr. program and took a time penalty or his score would have been even higher.

Senior Dance was interesting. It is the discipline I know the least. Alexandra Aldridge/Mathew Blackmer haven't been together very long. I enjoyed them and thought they looked good together. It took forever for the FD scores to come up. I could see the K&C and they all looked puzzled and I could see Mathew shaking his head. I don't know if they got some deduction that they didn't expect or what the problem was, but they all seemed confused.

The other Sr. Dance couple was Danielle Thomas/Daniel Eaton. I think they are also new this season and she came up kind of quickly to skate at the senior level. I liked them. I was surprised to see them here because they have competed together a few times this season. Guess they wanted another competition for experience.

Anyway that is it . I had a good time and would certainly go again if it is nearby.

Thanks Doris for posting all of the scores. Always fun to see how familiar faces finish in comparison with the more established skaters at this level.
