Hi Iluvtodd!!! Not sure if I saw you at the Todd ezboard or not but yes I am a HUGE film score fan. My favorite composers are Phillip Glass, Elliot Goldenthal, Jerry Goldsmith, John Williams of course, Howard Shore even though few of his works come close to rivalling LOTR, Basil P can't pronounce his last name but he did Les Miserables with Liam Neeson (terrible adaptation, worst I've ever seen) and Free Willy (among the most beautiful I've heard), Gabriel Yared, George Fenton, OH can't possibly forget James Newton Howard, and Alan Menken I also enjoy, as well as the old Disney scores and songs especially Sleeping Beauty, Alice In Wonderland, Cinderella, and Mary Poppins, and hm what else... I LOVE Randy Edelman, and I'm one of those nuts who likes Hans Zimmer too. I also like the music for Crouching Tiger, and I ADORE Shakespeare In Love, and I've fallen in love with Craig Armstrong's music as well. I also like Horner, and travesty though it is I enjoy Enemy At The Gates soundtrack, and I enjoy David Newman's works too. I love Thomas Newman as well, his Finding Nemo is truly deserving of the Oscar nomination, and who can forget the great Alfred Newman even though honestly I've only heard Anastasia, which I would kill to have LOL. I also like Danny Elfman... pretty much all composers I like. I love Steven Schwartz's music for The Prince of Egypt, and I like Trevor Rabin's Armageddon.

Oh and one of my all-time favorite scores, one whose magnificence I never get tired of, Elmer Bernstein's THE TEN COMMANDMENTS.

Such a shame about Yared's Troy, it really is marvellous, except for Hector's Funeral. My friends and I agree, the woman sounds horrible. For some reason she sounds better in Horner's version. Have you heard Groban's song yet? I haven't heard it LOL and I am looking forward to the day when I can actually hear it. I heard the lyrics are excellent. Is the lyricist Will Jennings again or is it someone new?

Whoa, I didn't even MENTION the great Michael Kamen! I love him too, especially of course Robin Hood, but also adore The Three Musketeers. GOD REST HIS SOUL! WE MISS YOU!!!!!!!

Angie, yes that's me (Gail) from the "Todd" board. ;)

I love a lot of the Disney soundtracks too (Little Mermaid, Beauty & the Beast, Lion King, Mulan, etc.), not to mention so many of the Classic Disney songs from the earlier years.

I have a question for you re: Michael Kamen. Are you saying that he passed away recently? If so, when did that happen, and how old was he? Robin Hood Prince of Thieves is my favorite movie soundtrack and I also am very partial to Mr. Holland's Opus (so much so that I not only bought the soundtrack, but I also bought the score), and Band of Brothers.

Yes, sadly Michael Kamen has left us. He died on November 18th, 2003, at age 52. I recall the cause of death had something to do with the heart. I think it was a heart attack.

I loved Mr. Holland's Opus, the American Symphony was just spectacular.

oh I forgot to mention I also like John Debney's Cutthroat Island and Passion of the Christ scores. Cutthroat is the best pirate score ever written, nearly everyone who's heard it agrees. Unfortunately I don't have it and it's not available to buy. I'll probably get someone to burn it for me on a score community trade list.

Debney also wrote the music for many episodes of the hit show seaQuest DSV and seaQuest 2032 LOL both of which starred other recently departed actors Royce D. Applegate (starred in The Rookie and Seabiscuit) and Jonathan Brandis (Sidekicks, Ladybugs, Stephen King's It). Royce died New Year's Day 2003 in a fire, at age 64, and Jon killed himself in November this past year. He was just 27. He looks (looked) so much like Sasha Abt.

Thanks for all of that info, Angie, even though it's so sad.

Enjoy all of those wonderful soundtracks.

I have to say that I am very grateful to the skaters for exposing me to so much of the music that I end up buying. If it weren't for them, I just wouldn't be aware of so much cool music. I've bought a lot of movie soundtracks even if I haven't seen a number of the movies!
