It seems his experience at Ondrej Nepera Trophy did help him psychologically.

Those who saw him off ice yesterday told me that they were surprised Mika was actually much small in person though he has a great presence on ice. It was quite surprising to me too that he's shorter than Sasha. I also heard he was running and chasing with other skaters in the mix zone... :scratch2::laugh: They all said he was cute and was a very nice guy.

Actually I think it's always been the same - the medallists get a'pass' and the rest is to discretion of the organisers - in this case it was clear that Amodio & Michal would get invited so alas Mika was out.

I note from the comments to the video of a signing session that Mika was very popular and in fact was still giving autographs when the others left. :yahoo:

Regarding that article by Oleg Vasiliev I think the hype is a bit excessive but if all this attention will result in a better funding for Chebotareva's group it'd be great. It could mean also that attempts to 'lure' Mika from Chebotareva will intensify. Though I am against coaching changes generally and in Mika's case especially I wonder if they could use an outside help, it seems to me that at least with his 4T Chebotareva's experience might just not be enough to make it his reliable jump he clearly has no issue with rotating it and the height he gets is amazing but landing is problematic. What do you think?

Out of thousand times when skaters were asked exactly the same question, I think it is the most remarkable in its wisdom & simplicity answer I've ever seen. Mika is truly something else!

I haven't found the video but I heard Jonny raved about his SS, Tara about his jumping technique in NBC broadcast today ;)

I was actually wondering if he gets some advice from Mishin since they're in the same rink. Mishin is remaining silent about Mika so probably I'm wrong, but I heard someone say he has a distinctive landing position which resembles Mishin's students like Liza, and his landing does remind me of Gachinsky's.

But this is how he said in the interview earlier this season:

- There was no desire in the period of preparation for the season to take a master class coaches, which are famous for the ability to deliver hopping technique?
- Technical me at the correct base is noted by all experts. The problem is in stability. But it will come with experience and the ability to tune in to start.

He may change his mind and think he needs some advices to get that stability though...

BTW I was too happy that he got level 4 for his stsq that I was counting all the turns and steps in his SP this afternoon and I was truly amazed how precise he does the turns. He keeps the edge deep and long enough that it was easy for some inexpert like me to count them all :)

They don't train at the same rink. Mishin's/Moskvina's school is at Yubileyny. The other SPB coaching groups train at the Academy of Figure Skating.

Thanks for correcting me. I've been trying to gather informations about this and it's something I've never figured out clearly. They used be in the same school before Mishin established Stars on Ice, so does that mean Mishin moved after that? Sorry if I'm completely wrong about this.

Yes I think that they used to train in the same rink but not any more. However I find Mishin's silence regarding Mika quite remarkable. He gave an interview after Euros talking about Sasha and Maxim and not even a mention of Mika. interesting ...

Mishin's group has always been at Yubileyny, I'm not sure about Chebotareva's group. The club that several SPB coaching groups are part of is Sdyushor (Olympic Reserve Sports School) St Petersburg. Then Mishin and Moskvina established "Star Ice" together in 2014 (which is also basically a kind of Olympic Sports School) to achieve financial independence. They hope to move to a new building next year but I'm not sure how that building is progressing in terms of construction.

He didn't mention Kolyada because he wasn't asked. They only asked him about the medalists and of course Sasha since he is Mishin's student.

Depressing indeed, what a pain skaters have to go through and we are so selfish watching them from our cosy couches..
So he thinks Mika's knees to be broken - I hope not :)

BTW Valentin Piseev mentions Mika in today's review of the Euros:

Reading that Mika likes to perform before big audiences (I know, who doesn't?) makes me really look forward to see him skating at an event in Japan. I'm sure the japanese audience would love him!

And it's great to hear that Johnny thinks Mika's skating skills are great too - but complaining about the Nightmare before christmas music choice?! :curse::furious::roll5: I mean whaaaaaat? :drama:

Acoording to Alexandre Kogan, the fed will decide the World team at the beginning of March. I'd like to believe he's spot is secured though...

I have no idea what is his next competition, but he might appear at the Cup of Russia Final (16-20 February) since he's qualified. But he has already attended 9 competitions this season so far, so he might not.

I've watched his LP in Euros and I can't deny that it's something wrong happend with it since the Russian Cup. It looks like he is a little bit outgrew it. As far as I understood they made it about 3 years ago before his injury, and I've read in his interview that few years ago he was completly like other person, sometimes angry, indiciplined, emotional, a person who couldn't decide what he wants. I've saw his programm in RusCup and it was like I saw this boy in his programm. His short is still ok, he is like "I'm crazy and funny, deal with it". He is more confident, more calm, more dedicated. But his LP's nerve is kind of lost.
