Your favorite US Sectionals moment?

For those of you who watched US sectionals this week and weekend – what was your favorite moment? My favorite was Pacific Coast Sectionals Juvenile Boys champion Samuel Mindra. He fell on his first element, a double axel. When that seemed to affect his next element, a spin, I was on the edge of my seat wondering if he would be able to get back into the performance. Did he ever! By the end he was skating so full of joy you just had to smile (and so on technically that he got +2 and +3 GOE’s on his last two elements.)

Vincent Zhou’s emotional reaction on winning Midwestern Sectionals Senior Men with that great skate with 2 triple axels and a quad salchow was also pretty great!

Here are links to Samuel Mindra’s skate if you have an icenetwork subscription:

(For comparison – here’s his NW Pacific Regionals performance. I love his reaction to his score here. He’s the first of just two skaters: http://web.icenetwork.com/video/v522953183/?event=2016_nwp_regionals )

I love watching the sectionals. It's fun to discover new talent and I find I learn a lot watching these young skaters who are in the early stages of development.

My favorite feel-good moment was Carly Gold winning the Senior Ladies Pacific Coast Sectionals and qualifying for Nationals. It was great to see her determination and perseverance rewarded.

My favorite comic relief moment was watching Frank Carrol get (politely) shooed from in front of the Kiss and Cry by the gate keeper. At the Pacific Coast Sectionals a favorite place for coaches to watch their pupils seemed to be a spot in front of the K&C where they partially blocked the camera's view of the skater awaiting his/her scores. When this happened the gate keeper would pop over and ask the coach to move. Nice to see the folks running the comp were very democratic and asked even an eminent coach like Frank to scoot off so the skater could have her moment in the limelight.

My favorite "awwww...." moment was watching the adorably tiny Blanchette/Colucci in the Midwest Sectionals juvenile free dance. If you subscribe to Icenetwork and think you can stand the cuteness, their skate starts at around 28:49 here: http://web.icenetwork.com/video/v530479483/?event=2016_mw_sectionals.
