French figure skater Romain Ponsart was born in Charleville-Mézières, France on 27 Apr 1992.

As of January 2016, he was training at 7k Skate Academy in Colorado, with Kori Ade, Rohene Ward and Vincent Restencourt. He is 23 and has been skating for France for over 7 years, as a senior and a junior. He trained briefly with Brian Joubert in 2015, but that partnership did not work and in late 2015 he went to 7k.

Later In 2016, Ponsart began training under his new coach, Rafael Arutyunyan, and as of season 2019-20, he is still training with Arutyunyan. He is the five time French National bronze medalist and the 2015 French silver medalist. He is the 2021 Tallink Hotels Cup and the 2021 Challenge Cup silver medalist.

An interview (in French) on skating for France, what he likes best (the quad and the feeling of flying) and why he started training at 7k:

On a totally shallow note: Having watched skating for over 40 years now, I am beyond deciding whether 20 year olds are good looking. It usually does not enter my consciousness.

But even I need to admit Romain Ponsart is one attractive guy; I haven't seen a skater this good looking since competitive Christopher Bowman

And one last point, I frankly skimmed Romain's interview and did not see (thanks to Mia in the French skaters' thread) : he is planning on changing his LP for the Bavarian Open. More Rohene choreography, perhaps?

I didn't know... He complained about his training in Poitiers, missing his family, etc... and what does he do next? Go to 7k in Colorado.
Does that mean that he finally realized how childish and naive he had been when he quit Joubert and great training conditions? And finally realized he had to change if he wanted a chance to get to the international levels? I hope so, because otherwise, he should just quit.
Sorry, I know this is a fan thread, but this guy really pissed me off months ago after TEB. I now hope he has really changed and that 7k made things straight in his head again.

He explained that it was a lie...Why he lied? I would like to know.

A thing that intrigued me: After the meeting between them, Joubert said the federation will not allow Ponsart to return in Paris because he refused to return with Joubert and should propose him to skate in pairs. Except that Ponsart says in his last interview that it has never been question about pairs and explained that the federation had no free places in Paris before January... :scratch2: Knowing that in the first article about the duo, it was written that the federation wasn't happy with this collaboration, could the federation have played an important role in their separation? I don’t forget that Joubert has spoken about Ponsart’s words on Poitiers which were denied by Ponsart. It was during the TEB... We can suppose the intervention of a third party who lied ?!? Otherwise, it is incomprehensible that Joubert was anger...

It would not surprise me. Ponsart left Bercy, against Gailhaguet will, who's trying to create a super pole in Paris. It would not be the first time FFSG scheme like that and destroy a carrier. And in the same logic, it could be a kind of action against Joubert, to prevent him from building a good school outside Bercy. Of course just speculation, but not so hard to picture in fact.

With DG, sadly, any underhand skulduggery is not difficult of belief at all... What fun when he becomes ISU president...

Was going to post same 'shallow' observation when noticed your post - glad I am not alone! Using a modern slang he is sooo hot and fit (obviously) :)
On more serious note I loved his sp at TEB - the balletic quality of his movement is exquisite. He would make such a gorgeous ice dancer. But his jumps are good too when he lands them. I liked his interpretation of Je suis malade - a lot of emotion within but not OTT drama.
Was shocked by total lack of support at the K&C by Joubert for God sake the guy made 2 mistakes so what it was a very worthy debut!
Disappointed not to see him at Euros

Also posted in the 7k thread, Romain Ponsart, the new face of Kori Ade's team;)

With Jordan and Jason out Romain is taking over Coach Vincent's instagram as the new face of Team 7k:

Romain's jump (quad? I hate counting revolutions) with Kori photobombing and Rohene profiling

Wow; thx for the instagrams. Does this mean they are like a real couple, or is this just Romain being gallant and Gallic?

(And wow, I don't blame Mariah, but that didn't take long. Then again, if I were Mariah's age around someone who looked like Romain .... chouette!

He wasn't with Lola Esbrat (or another girl ?) before ? Perhaps I make an error but I thought have seen a photo of them when he was in Poitiers. They were next a swimming pool in a park. Now the photo is deleted

Romain came in 5th at the Bavarian Open with 189.77.

Reports from intrepid German reporter Alex D in the Bavarian Open thread:

http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/showthread.php?58435-2016-Bavarian-Open-Feb-17-21/page7

Alex reported about Romain's FS:

"As for Romain Ponsart, he really did it again, a performance that just takes your breath away, I find that guy super awesome on blades, what he does, is really art - the way he glides over the ice, uses his arms and the knee work, expression - it just stands out. He doesn't do a lot of "noise" you know, he just skates with full heart and soul, a white - black outfit, nothing flashy or glitter, really cool package that guy! It´s amazing that he still manages to put in something like a quad toe or triple Axel - triple toe in these programs, it just looks so effortless what he does and yet, has such a high skill level."

I'm not sure if it's the right place for this (sorry if it's not), but a Go Fund Me has been raised for Romain, in the beginning of March, as he's lacking money for training: https://dm2.gofund.me/a7rsdqw4
I don't have much love for the guy, but a skater in need who works hard to get better deserves some support, especially since we all know how expensive this sport is.

TSL reporting that Romain has moved, with Mariah, to Rafael

https://twitter.com/SkatingLesson/status/768101353986134016

Since Romain came over at Coach Vincent's urging, and Vincent is now with Tammy, it does not surprise me that he would want to move, but Mariah? I don't know enough about her, and her fans can speak to it, but it seems like a lot of moving.

I am not a huge Rafael fan, but I hope it works out for Romain:hap10: (as it did for Adam and Ashley!)
