Many thanks to Doris for the links and schedule!

Since they start first, and I enjoy them, I wanted to start a thread for the lower level events at the US championships. These are our future stars, so they deserve a chat-fest of their own! I love seeing their creative program choices (much more variety and originality than in seniors) and finding up-and-comers to root for. And I thought others might like them too!

Who do you think will win the juvenile/intermediate/novice titles in any or all disciplines? If you watched sectionals or follow the lower levels, who did you like that you look forward to seeing?

Note: this is a generic juv/int/novice thread for all levels and disciplines, since I didn't think the lower levels would get enough viewers to warrant twelve :eeking: individual event threads!

I'm looking forward to Juv Girls/ Boys this year since there is +1 point for double axel and triples. Novice Men/Ladies look strong, too. I think this was a smart move to push the younger skaters to go for the jumps and not just go for components.

We just started watching dance and I'm really liking the young Intermediate teams this year. Exciting to follow the new crop of dancers as they develop!

I agree. The novice ladies had some pretty impressive layouts at sectionals (for example, Starr Andrews landed three triple lutzes at sectionals !). I actually haven't watched any of the dance at these levels, but I look forward to seeing the best ones at nationals! Juveniles should be good as well-it's cool to see future stars at the very beginning of their careers.

Something went awry with copying Doris' hyperlinks into the OP.
Her hyperlinks were not successfully copied, although her words were.

ETA: Thx to Doris for lending a hand with the OP links and getting them straightened out.

Good luck to all the skaters in St. Paul :).

Great idea OP!

Most of this information is online I think I'll compile the layouts for all the singles for novice at least. I'm eager to see what these kids do at nationals!

Keep an eye out for Caroline and Gordon Green, a novice ice dance team. They won the novice title last year, the intermediate title the year before that, and the juvenile title the year before that.

I just got around to watching the ladies intermediate at sectionals. I was surprised at the number girls who had triple jumps in their programs. At the novice level, the one point bonus for triples seems to have increased the number of girls who are attempting 3-2 and 3-3 combinations. The bonus for triples seems to be a step in the right direction.

The Greens are definitely the favorites going into their 2nd novice title.

I compiled the layouts of the top 5 or 6 entries in each novice event, compared them between sectionals and regionals and included Levels, GOE and program components as well. Some of the novice ladies are doing triple + triples and quite a few have full triple arsenals. In the men's event look at Eric Sjoberg's free skate layout. The one point bonus is definitely making a difference. Here's the links if you want to see the comparisons:

Good Heavens. That's a lot of work. Thanks for posting.

I remember seeing Jean Luc Baker as an intermediate (when Junior Nationals was not combined with Senior Nationals) I've been following him ever since.

Thanks! I have all the juniors done as well and seniors will be up soon. I still remember McNamara and Carpenter's Boots Were Made for Walking program back when they first competed in juniors!

Thank you icemusings for the great Novice preview!!! Can't wait to see all of these competitors show their stuff and it's really helpful to have the background info on them that you provided. Normally, the program brochure only tells us superficial stuff like where the kids train. Thanks so much for doing this!!!
