I admit that I really don't pay attention to a lot of the lower levels of skating.

I do have to cheer for the only Maine natives in any of the disciplines for winning the silver medal in juvenile pairs. :cheer:

Random: when they announced Haley Beavers, I thought they said "Kaitlyn Weaver" and I was like "whaaaaa...?"

Edit: Haley is amazing and should medal and is using Yulia's current FS music.

Past Nationals Haley Beavers was 6th in Novice Ladies. See http://www.usfigureskating.org/leaderboard/results/2015/2015_us_fs_champs/results.html

Is it her page?

Emily was 17 when she won novice last year. I think we prefer winners be younger, so they have more room to grow as skater. But in this case it means shorter junior careers and less time to adjust to competing internationally. However it does refute one belief. It looks like Haley just learned her 3lz this year and Emily learned her triples at age 16. So girls may be able learn new jumps after puberty.

I'm watching Ashley Lin's free skate, novice, and I have to say, it's a pretty gutsy move to use the current world champion's very distinctive free skate music the very next year. But I love Liza's music so I can't complain. :) Besides, it was an enjoyable skate and Ashley did a great job!

Thanks, but that was before I was even born--can you explain the connection? :scratch2: As a side note, Ashley took home the pewter medal, so good for her! :cheer: To no one's surprise, Haley Beavers won.
I'm calling it right now: that girl is the next big thing. All her triples IN NOVICE :jaw:, great performance quality and musicality, good speed, and, yes, even consistency! Haley has got everything and I seriously think she's going places. If she moves up to junior next year, I could see her making a splash on the JGP-possibly top 5? And even with all that, she has room to improve, so her scores could definitely go up (spins could be better). Best of luck to her! :cheer:

Emily was 17 when she won novice last year. I think we prefer winners be younger, so they have more room to grow as skater.
Emily Chan this season had only one international - JGP Event, where she was 6th.

In Russia almost all the promising skaters have medals of Zhuk Memorial - "baby nationals" (younger age 10 and younger, and/or elder age 11-12 years old).
But ... world silver medalist Alena Leonova started to progress being 16.

But in this case it means shorter junior careers and less time to adjust to competing internationally. However it does refute one belief. It looks like Haley just learned her 3lz this year and Emily learned her triples at age 16. So girls may be able learn new jumps after puberty.
Yes. Past Nationals she planned 3Lz in FS, but doubled it.
One year ago she landed only 3T and 3Lo (URed) of triples.
Now - all triples except 3S, so we see serious progress.

At her SP video I see good skating skills and choreo, good spins, but she is some slow and some lack of flexibility.
Nice skating - it is typical for US Ladies.

I just watched the Free Dance of Lin/Sletton in the Intermediate Ice Dance category. I think they have a lot of charisma and if they continue getting better, I think that they could definitely contend in the (i guess far) future.

other notes:

Nguyen/Gart - Wow. Now this team I can see making it far if they stay together and continue along their path. The performance quality and charisma was there and they had TONS of speed it looked like. Both reminded me of Charlie White when Davis and White first became seniors, in that they had a lot of speed and energy. Only, these two looked to have a lot more control.

Tkachenko/Kiliakov - To be honest, they didn't resonate as much with me as the others I mentioned. They were definitely good for the age range, but I thought other teams had more performance quality at this time.

Amoia/Fraiman - She reminds me of Polina Edmunds or Papadakis because of her lanky figure and long limbs. I think this team also has a lot of potential.

Overall, I was quite impressed. I had never watched any Intermediate level skating before (I barely even watch Junior-level), but it's so cool seeing the potential there is, and how strong it is already.

I just watched her. Her presentation skills are senior level IMO. of course she could be more flexible but that's not reward as much anymore ;_; now skaters don't even do Spirals. It's all about the jumps....

I think she and alexia are very promising for next season. Alexia needs to improve artistically, but she has time. All I can say is Novice girls are beast and there's going to be a lot more competitive skaters from ladies soon.

I'm watching the novice free dance right now, and am I the only one frustrated at the immediate direct music into the feed as soon as the dancers finish... and keeping it so loud that I can't even hear the scores? I don't mind the music they're playing that much, but I do mind the immediate volume level and not being able to hear the announcer. Good thing they've got the live scoring going.

Agreed - terrible! I thought there was something wrong with my computer and that I was picking up that awful sound from some other site. I keep having to turn off the sound between skaters.
WHy do they do that?
