U. S. Nationals Practice Groups

Here is a link to Practice Groups. I did notice that Jordan Moeller has not been replaced by Eric Stinehart so this list will probably be updated again.

Not listed: Joshua Farris, Haven Denney/Brandon Frazier

I'm going to take this as confirmation that neither of them will be competing this year.

Thanks v much -- glad to get our first look at a draft of the Practice Groups.

The list is dated Dec 18, and Jordan did not announce his withdrawal until Dec 26 ("Due to an injury that I sustained during practice earlier this week ..." https://www.instagram.com/p/_xG88egp7k/). [ETA, the exact date of Jordan's injury was Dec 22, per IN: http://web.icenetwork.com/news/2016/12/05/161066480]
So agree with your point that the list surely will be updated.

Sad to see that Josh :sad4: and Haven/Brandon :sad4: are not on the list.

But it is good news that Jason is on the list.

How do they decide who's in what group?

The rulebook just says the practice groups "are pre-defined by the chief referee and determine the official practice sessions to which each skater is assigned. The practice groups do not change based on the draw."

I think they usually seed them, but there isn't a spelled-out procedure.

Is there a reason there a no dates or times on those sheets? I won't be there but, I was just curious.

Interesting. Thanks, gkelly. I just thought it was a bit suspicious that the teams considered to be number one and not number two got the groups with fewer people in it... highly convenient. The groups seemed highly ranked--I'm thinking of the dance in particular with C/B in group 1, S/S group 2, H/D group 3, and H/B group 4. Probably just me being paranoid though.

I *think* it might be based on last years nationals placement but couting off the groups. I.E. first place in practice group A, second in group B.

So for Ice Dancing

3 Madison Hubbell / Zachary Donohue - Group C
4 Kaitlin Hawayek / Jean-Luc Baker - Group A
5 Anastasia Cannuscio / Colin McManus - Group B
6 Alexandra Aldridge / Daniel Eaton - Group C
7 Danielle Gamelin / Alexander Gamelin - not present
8 Anastasia Olson / Ian Lorello - not present
9 Charlotte Maxwell / Ryan Devereaux - not present
10 Ginna Hoptman / Pavel Filchenkov - not present
11 Elicia Reynolds / Stephen Reynolds - Group A
This is where it breaks down... P/A should be swapped with P/F...

Corrections:

- Aldridge/Eaton are no longer partners.

This year Thomas/Eaton are in Practice Group A; and Aldridge/Beamer are in Practice Group C.

- Maxwell/Devereaux are competing this year and are in Practice Group B.

- Morrell Zucker/Sitiks are competing this year and are in Practice Group C.
