I am ridiculously excited for this event, so why not start another questionnaire thread?


You don't have to answer all the questions if you don't want to. And if you think of a question I didn't ask that you want to answer, by all means, post it! I will add it to the OP. Ready? Let's go!

In seniors: Gracie Gold, Karen Chen, the Shibs, Hawayek/Baker, Kayne/O'shea, Castelli/Tran, Cannuscio/McManus, Max Aaron, Nathan Chen, Grant Hochstein; in juniors, Vivian Le, McNamara/Carpenter, Carreira/Ponomarenko, Gropman/Sommerville (they are PRESH! ), Emily Chan, Anna Grace Davidson (my fave from last year's novice event!)
2. Who do you think will win the senior events?
Gracie (could be Ashley, but I have a feeling it's Gracie's turn ), Max, Scimeca/Knierim, Chock/Bates

Junior and senior dance
4. Which event, at any level, will be the most unpredictable?
Men's...although the ladies could go a million ways too

Possibly. It almost entirely depends on how Gracie does, unless she (Ashley) bombs spectacularly

I hope so, but I'm not sure the judges will let them
9. Who will be the second pair team on the World Team?
Either Kayne/O'Shea or Castelli/Tran...could go either way but K/O have a slight edge
10. Who do you think will be on the Junior World teams in any/all disciplines?
In ladies, Vivian Le and Emily Chan; in men's, Nathan Chen and Vincent Zhou; in dance, M/C, Parsons and C/P; and in pairs, W/F, L/J and W/S
11. If a top senior lady skates perfectly, what crazy or surprisingly fair score do you think she'd get?
If Gracie or Ashley skates lights-out, at least 73 and 145+ (who knows, could be 155 after the inflation fiasco last year)

Grant Hochstein, of course!
13. Which juniors are you most excited about?
MINIQUEEN VIVI!!!!!! Also M/C and Emily Chan, and Gropman/Sommerville, and Carreira/Ponomarenko.
14. Who have you noticed during Sectionals that you hope will do well here?

15. If the Nationals Genie granted you two Nationals wishes, what would they be?
1. Ladies podium is Gracie-Karen-Mariah-Mirai in that order
2. Vivian skates perfectly and dominates the juniors
3. Year of the Shibs.

1... pretty much everyone. I am not sure i am excited so much as curious and anticipatory.

2. Ashley, Scimeca/Knierim, Shibs and...my inner Vulcan says Max will win, but the Ferengi in me is telling me Adam

3. I think junior ladies is a strong contender for this one.

4. Senior ladies or Men. So few spots so many skaters of similar standings.

5. I am going to say Tyler Pierce as she is about the only one that has a chance that might be still considered a surprise...most others are either already a maybe or pretty unlikely. Does pewter count? If so i might go with Carly.

6. Max I think has the strongest chance to be top three, followed closely by Adam. Behind Adam I think Grant and Ross are really really close and the most likely candidates. I think Ross might have a slight edge due to Worlds in Boston.

7. Yes. I think she will.

8. I think so actually. I don't think it will hurt C/B though, I think it will be more of an Ashley Gracie two #1.5s.

9. I am going with Castelli/Tran.

10. Vivian and Emily, but maybe Karen will make an appearance. Nathan and Vincent are pretty strong locks for mens. I don't really follow jr dance/pairs enough to comment much, i suspect that is more of a i trust y'all type things.

11. 75/150 I think could be seen.

12. What is surprising anymore? I think Max and Maddie will get bronze, that might be surprising.

13. The logical Vivi and Emily.

14. Not sectionals but Avery Kurtz stood out to my better half and I at Broadmoore Open during the summer, so I was pretty happy to see her make it to nationals. She will be a new comer that I hope turns some heads. Also Christina Cleveland could surprise. She is one that seems to enjoy performing.

Well, I'd wager on the top 2 ladies getting scores well above 70
12. Do you have any surprise medalist predictions? If so, who?
Aaron and Settlage. Shouldn't be a surprise because they were pewter last year, but they've had a truncated season so far.

Zhou.
14. Who have you noticed during Sectionals that you hope will do well here?
Carly Gold, Scott Dyer

Max stays healthy and strong (for the love of Plushenchrist, PLEASE!) and has the skates he wants.
I'd like to see Ross make the Worlds team in his home city.

15. If the Nationals Genie granted you two Nationals wishes, what would they be? First, that no gets injured (except for broken hearts which are, sadly, unavoidable.) And second, that my extra special favorites skate their very best. Those would include Kaitlyn Nguyen, Polina, Gracie, Chock & Bates, Manta & Johnson, Hawayak & Baker, Sierra Venetta, and Kayne & O'Shea.

I think Gracie could get up to 75 in the short, and both girls are capable of up to 145 in the long.
12. Do you have any surprise medalist predictions? If so, who?
I guess Courtney Hicks, but I don't think anyone would be terribly surprised.
13. Which juniors are you most excited about?
Vivian! I love her.
14. Who have you noticed during Sectionals that you hope will do well here?
I'm hoping for a good showing for Carly Gold. I think she has a great attitude about being "the other sister".
15. If the Nationals Genie granted you two Nationals wishes, what would they be?
1. Solid showings for the top two ladies to build confidence for worlds.
2. I really hope Mirai will surprise us and make the World Team. A trip to Worlds in her home country would be a spectacular reward for her hard work, and may help erase some of the bitterness she must feel about the Olympic Team selection.

I would absolutely love to see Ricky Dornbush medal; and I think it's entirely possible. I passionately want to see those 2 programs skated the way I know he can skate them.

Unfortunately I don't keep up that well.

Sentimental favorite Carly Gold. I love her attitude and her quiet, steady ambition. It would be so great for both sisters, and Frank's attentiveness to both is very touching.

15. If the Nationals Genie granted you two Nationals wishes, what would they be?

a. Ashley and Gracie both skate lights out and build their confidence going into Worlds.

b. (cribbing from StitchMonkey) Dornbush to announce a sabbatical from school to focus on 2018 - and look really happy about it!

c. Gretchen/Nate medal. Okay, so that will have to wait for next year's Wish List, and will have to include that Gretchen learns to land her jumps and throws and gets consistent and confident with them. They are such beautiful skaters together, their lifts are spectacular and her air positions are dazzling.

1. Seniors: Nathan Chen, Adam Rippon, Timothy Dolensky, Karen Chen, Courtney Hicks, Ashley Wagner, Polina Edmunds, Karen Chen, and ShibSibs. Juniors: McNamara/Carpenter, the Parsons, Vivian Le, Liu/Johnson, and Weinberg/Fernandez.
2. Oooohhh.... Men's is a tough one. I'm leaning towards Max Aaron or Adam Rippon winning for mens. Ladies: Ashley or Gracie. Pairs: Scimeca/Knierim without a doubt. Dance: Most likely Chock/Bates but I kinda want the ShibSibs to win.
3. Junior and senior dance as well (ESPECIALLY juniors with McNamara/Carpenter and the Parsons) for best quality. For excitement, I would definitely have to say senior men's and ladies. The Ashley vs. Gracie is cool and 3rd place will be a toss-up. Men's will be interesting due to Jason and Josh not competing.
4. I would say the men's will be unpredictable with two of last year's medalists not competing this year at nationals so it COULD be ANYONE'S game on who medals. Ladies will be unpredictable for the 3rd place spot assuming Ashley and Gracie do super well.
5. Courtney Hicks....though not to us, but to most people who don't follow skating until nationals or Olympics, then yes. Polina maybe since she's done so-so. BUT she did get a PB in her SP at CoR.
6. Max and Adam for sure. Ross Miner, Nathan Chen, and Timothy Dolensky could get 3rd-5th place. Don't know how.
7. It's definitely possible. But then again, I don't know when was the last time Ashley and Gracie had two clean skates at the exact same competition. It depends what happens. But if Ashley skates how she did for her SP at Skate Canada AND the FP during the GPF (Because they produced personal best scores for SP and FP for her), I say it's very possible. But Gracie...hmmmm well she did a clean, SUPER clean SP in the TEB and mostly clean FP at Skate America.....it's a toss-up.
8. Most likely no. BUT there's always been surprises. If the levels for the ShibSibs SD and FD gets leveled up and TOTAL TOTAL CLEAN.....well I'm not sure TBH. It's POSSIBLE. But very SLIM.
9. Like some say, K/O or Mervin/Tran. I mean both are most likely going to go to the 4CC, BUT it'll be a toss-up. K/O maybe....
10. Ladies: Vivian Le definitely, and hmmmmmm if Karen doesn't make it and they send her to Jr. World....but if not...hmmmmm honestly have no clue. Men's: Nathan Chen and Vincent Zhou without a doubt (Well Vincent is still too young anyways for senior Worlds). Pairs: Liu/Johnson, Weinberg/Fernandez, and I have no clue for the 3rd spot because I haven't really been paying attention. Dance: McNamara/Carpenter and the Parsons for SURE. The 3rd spot...hmmmm I think Carreira/Ponomarenko like you said because I heard people say a lot of good things about them.
11. Oh gosh. Mid-70's for sure. 75....possibly 77. FP? 150 could be broken though I'm not sure how Ashley could top her lights-out FP from last year's nationals.

13. McNamara/Carpenter and the Parsons of course. I wonder if junior nationals records will be broken. I mean considering the scores they got this season and how much inflation happens at US Nationals, I wouldn't be surprised if one team hits 70 for a SP. Or 100 for a FP.
